Agreed, for most boards, the wood layer is essentially a veneer, and adds no more strength than a layer of paper.

I added both track mounts for a plate and a tuttle box to my L41, but I added a nearly full width and foot long layer of carbon top and bottom, 4oz glass under the mast tracks, and a 4oz sanding layer on top of the carbon to bed the mounts and reinforce the top and bottom. Might be overkill, but I don't think so. The Tuttle box I used is deep tuttle mounted in a box of PVC foam with a thick layer of carbon on top. Might be a GoFoil product, I'm not sure. Rod Parmenter left it laying around the shop (always a mistake) so I used it.
