Werner RipStick took in some water

Hi all,

My RipStick paddle has taken in some water not a lot but I can hear it when swinging the paddle.  Werner is willing to repair it but the UPS store wants to charge me a lot of money to ship from NJ to WA.

Any chance I can fix this on my own and how?

Good question.  I should have figured that out before asking.  I'll stick the handle and blade in water see if any bubbles.

It's odd no bubbles when submerging each end in water.  Plus, I noticed the water inside a couple weeks ago and continued to use the paddle, I don't think more water is getting in, if it is the leak must be miniscule.

You probably just have a very small leak in one of the joints.  I had a small leak on my handle joint a while back and could hear water inside.  Keeping the paddle in my hot car removed any water (until my next session). 

To fix I just removed the handle and re glued (hot glue).  No problems since then.

Yes, if no apparent damage, the handle is the usual suspect.

Warner recommends slow cure epoxy, so if the handle was factory or dealer installed, it could be a bear to get off.  I would try the least invasive first, the DJ boiling water approach.  Bring a pot of water to boil, hold the handle in the water for a couple minutes, with limited twisting, use a rag to pull the handle off.

Use a 5 minute epoxy or high strength hot glue to reassemble.  (If you like the current alignment, make alignment marks to get back to the same exact position.)

If the paddle dries it self out, you could just go over the joints with 5 min epoxy.

I can't understand why all manufacturer's haven't switched to hot glue completely.
