I suppose you guys can get a boat and take up wakesurfing:

Looks cool, I'd try it, but I think that's more of a "one and done" sort of thing.

If there was enough wind where I live, I'd still be doing this. In fact, just got a whole sailing rig. I'm not a power boat person.

All you need is water and wind.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Yep - Move to the Outer Banks or Wilmington. While you won't be in your daughter's backyard and that might be a good thing, I would think her and your son-in-law would love to have a "beach house" to go to! I'm 2 hours from Va. Beach, so I know I would love for my parents to have a house in Wilmington or OBX.

Its funny I would be willing to bet there is a version of this thread on every "ing" forum. Golf, fishing, hunting, bowling and too many other ings to count. Most men get obsessed with an activity that gives them some endorphin rush. To that end, I'm willing to bet you can become as easily obsessed with something other than surfing, so that you have something do to when you aren't out at the coast. Like everyone else here, we need an outdoor release but I have found that I can just as easily go whole hog into other things and leave surfing alone for months at a time. I haven't surfed since August but have been fishing my brains out, and it has been awesome.

As a matter of fact taking up something new, and getting through the beginner learning curve of whatever it is, is the best part. I have tried lots of different things, just enough to 'get it' and then give it up.

Really you just need to decide how hot/awesome your wife is compared to you, and how much money you have compared to your mate-ability (you become much more desirable to women as your bankroll increases) and make a decision as to how easily you can replace her. If it will be really hard, then get ready to join the Charlotte bowling league and make it work for ya.
Make paddleboarding great again!

“Women marry men hoping they will change. Men marry women hoping they will not. So each is inevitably disappointed” - Albert Einstein

Good thread. I was married for over 20 years. Eventually we just wanted different things. If you’re not living the life you want, no amount of being in love will prop you up. “Grey Divorce” is on the rise for good reason. You only have one life, how you spend your time here is everything.

Good luck.

I certainly DO hope all works out.  My fist wife and I had little in common.  We had enough to attract each other initially but ultimately we were just too different.  That fact combined with other things led to our breakage.  My current wife while she doesn’t surf she DOES love the ocean and nature and being outdoors.  She used to be an avid skier and rollerblader.  She was into things like canyoning and whitewater rafting.  She does want to get back into skiing (we took snowboard lessons together about 10 years ago) and I’m even thinking of making the switch (from board to skis) at least just to try it out.  Awhile ago we were going to take kiteboard lessons but due to me being laid off and then her shortly after I re-joined the workforce it just never panned out.  We both enjoy SUPing, cycling, hiking, snorkeling and many other things.  Plus she has recently taken up running and ariel yoga.  She doesn’t surf but she gets it.  Why am I mentioning all of this?  From your description (you being an obsessed ocean loving surfer) and her not and no understanding of why you are just seems to me a day like this was bound to happen.  I learned the hard way of how differences like that can later affect a relationship and after my divorce I made a point to be more selective on things like interests, passions, music preferences etc.  Not saying a couple should be 100 percent on the same page with everything, but some things are crucial.

Yes there is.
"Happy husband, court summoned"
It takes a quiver to do that.
