R.I.P Riviera
« on: September 18, 2017, 10:37:43 AM »
With riviera shutting down production and team riders jumping ship, can we expect this from more of the SUP OG brands ? interested to see what happens considering everybody and their mommas is making some sort of SUP brand. or will riviera get a revival like ROGUE brand did under boardworks ?

It's a rough business, with a lot of competition.  I wouldn't want the headache.  Wish them the best in the next episode.

How do you know this? Any articles or mentions somewhere that you can point us to?

I meant shutting down production. Just curious. They seem to have one of the largest production & distribution lines in the industry.

Great move by Infinity to add Shae to the team.

no press on it yet...Just a few people close to the brand. I am sure they will go out with style and just slowly sell what they have instead of just blowing up sales for 200 dollar boards

Its been spoken about here on the zone...but good riddance.

I know people say these are 'great people' blah blah.  But I did not have a very good experience with them.  They threw their dealers under the bus on my warranty claim and made them take the financial weight to make things right- zero factory support.

that and I'm on my 8th major repair...including a buckle on my El Tigre.  ZERO problems with and Sunova, Starboard, or Jimmy Lewis I have ever had.

Riv's ACTUAL response was essentially- "well our boards are super light so by default they are fragile."   Not an answer when you bill them as performance surf sups. Regardless of price point.

Ill also note its the only brand or product I have ever posted negatively about here. And i thought about the impacts when doing so.  I just couldn't see more people (moreover Zoners)  throw money at these boards with so many known construction and support problems.

Shae Foudy jumping ship is not the proof in the pudding, I've heard about it very early this year
From what I understand Dave imposes a 6 months cooling-off period to not be seeing as poaching riders.

That said, I've been hearing the rumors about Riviera for as long I heard about Shae, so I tend to believe it
even more now.
in progress...

I decided something was amiss when they didn't have the usual super-duper pastry tray at last year's party. I really do love those little eclairs, so that's pretty important. The rest of the party was awesome as always, food was fantastic, great band, but no fucking eclairs. So yeah...  ..AMF.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

I do love eclairs. That would have pissed me off as well! Some of these SUP companies will just never get it.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Omerta, the code of silence..Gonna break it. Hope I don't get banished..

404 production boards used to made by Riveria. When that relationship changed a local shop received a shipment of factory seconds which Riveria tried to pass off as NOS.

They got caught and denied it. That ended the shop's relationship with Rivera..

Dishonest shady folks.

Where does the myth of good people come from?

Inquiring minds want to know..

I am not sure what Jeff Clark is going to do without Riviera?

They were his version of a Wavestorm.  He would just grab one, ride it break it.  Then grab another one ride it break it.

He was the best team rider they had.

These are probably the biggest waves a Riviera ever caught by a 60 year old goofy footer going front side right no less.

Funny anecdote Jeff said "Did you ever see that picture of me in the pack of guys at Mavs."  Yes I said  "The wave before that I was going for it and all these guys are paddling at once and I yell 'Hey what are all you guys doing someone is going to get hurt.'  And then on the next wave they just parted the sea and let me have my wave."  So that is how you do it.   ::)

Gonna miss the yearly party at Brad's house. I'm sure they saw that their other business was a lot less "headachey" Than making boards.
