I'm In
« on: September 09, 2017, 07:44:11 AM »
After about 10 sessions on borrowed gear, I now have one I call my own.  Opted to go ahead with the Kai as we're moving into the winter season here on Maui and won't have much use for a Maliko.  My custom 7'6 Kalama prone foil board is at the glasser now.

Nice!

Two observations:

1) It looks like it is Dave Kalama's old foil.  What has he moved on to?

2) The small fences on the tips.  What are they supposed to improve?

Good eye, yes one of DK's he was kind enough to pass it on.  I can't really say what he's moved on to, you'll have to wait until he shares that info. :-X

The winglets on the tips are supposed to give some "bite" on your turns and also help decrease the "slurping" when the foil is close to the surface.

I'd learned to foil on the Maliko foil that didn't have the winglets and the turns were much slower..but that might just be due to the Malikos size.

Can't wait to see what comes next out of gofoil. Whatever they do, I really hope they adopt the plate mount, it just makes so much more sense.  I had heard a rumor that guys are riding Maliko front wing with Kai back wing (am I on the right track?)

Mixing up the wing setups have been tried, haven't heard that it makes a big difference one way or the other...just mixing it up.

Pic from last week, still trying to get the turns down without coming out.  Little tricky...
