That's Ka'a of course. Really good today. Jason (Daily Bread) pretty much always has his camera in his mouth. He's pretty slick with it--like an extension of his arm when he grabs it to shoot.

I'm finally getting the feel of my new board, which I haven't named yet. I've been calling it "Les", as in Les Fugly, but it's too pretty for that name. I'll figure something out.

Long, fast rides today, some of the waves were pretty punchy. Especially outside the reef. I got one that I thought was going to fall right on top of me, but it didn't, and I survived the drop and rode it a long way. Then when I was about to turn I stood up just a fraction, overfoiled and faceplanted. I have no idea why I do that, it never works and I always get punished.

Evan Lloyd was on Oahu a week ago.  We got to go foiling together and we talked about the challenges of learning to foil:

in your range what board & foil size would you recommend for a 1st timer 80kg 5'6 and comfortable on a SUP surf 8x30 & SUP raceboard 14x25?

Hi JEG,
Glad to hear you like the videos.
I would steer you towards the 6'11 Easy Foiler and a 1440 M Foil or S/M foil set.
If you don't mind a challenge you could possibly get away with the 6'6.
Please call our shop during opening hours if you need more advice, our crew here is knowledgeable and helpful. 808 596 7755.
Aloha!

I asked him how the vibe was:

I know you only want aloha Clay, and I understand how the lineup felt. This is not directed at you and I question why its been posted here.

Imagining.. I was .. In the line...I am sitting there in the water toughing it out. Took me forever to get into position. My neck hurts because I am prone surfing. shoulders numb... I am with all my buddies that have been surfing there for ever...clearly I have grey hair. And some dude with his buddies boat pulls a foiler in on the shoulder to then have him bob and weave in and out of the line. Then he has the gall to celebrate. The boat is causing wakes, making noise etc.. no aloha there. That break is not Nelscott. Or jaws. Why tow?

I call "boo" and I would say that he is doing a disservice to the foiling crowd. Bummer that this video is here to be honest. It would be one thing if he stayed on the shoulder, but he is bobbing and weaving through the line. If you look closely, more dudes are pissed.

He could have manned/womaned up and dropped in on the powder here and probably rode forever.

Fault me for being extra sensitive as I am just getting into foiling and this and the other video going around are not good to have anywhere on the interwebs.

If he were my buddy I would call him out. Someone has to regulate.

I must be missing something. I didn't see that, and I watched it a dozen times, full screen. He was a long way out of the pocket unless it was empty. Anyone surfing fort point has to be pretty good, that's some seriously snotty water, those guys aren't likely to be intimidated by a foiler. I'm not the greatest at judging vibe, but it looked OK to me.

I asked him how the vibe was:

I hate when I see a jetski or a boat around, it stinks and it is noisy. For me this is no respect at all.

I guess in the case it is different and I haven't been there so hard to give a jugment but still I think it is something that could be done somewhere else no ?

But once again, too bad because people will blame foilers, they will talk etc... and at the end foilers will loose even if there is nothing really bad in the video actually.

I totally hear what you are saying and agree that boats and skis tearing through the lineup would be a bummer.

Not meaning this as an attack or rebuttal only to give context for what it's often like to surf fort point.

At fort point there is a really loud fog horn, hundreds of thousands of cars zipping by overhead, huge container ships, speed boats, a giant bridge, a fort, hundreds of tourists on 3 wheeled motorcycles, helicopters, and bitter "locals".  Possibly the most unnatural surf spot in the world.

I've met this foiler and he has way more aloha than most of the regulars who surf here.

I know people who have foiled here and this is the first video I've seen on a solid day.
Aloha, I welcome and appreciate all responses of positivity and good feeling.

Maybe I am blind.
Clay is dude flipping the bird in the still jpg? I assume at the boat. Does not look like aloha. Also his buddy is pissed.

And in the video at 1:55, I believe I see the ole "GIT OUT OF HERE" hand motion twice from dude that he just swerved around.

If I read it wrong I apologize. I for sure know the "GIT OUT OF HERE" motion. Its unique.
