Yes this is who I want to be like when I grow up!

From Alex Aguerra:

"One of the clips I got of Austin Kalama out on the Oregon Coast on Sunday. Wish I did not turn the Camera off as he was standing when I looked afterwards."

Opposite end of the spectrum. It might be the easiest water-sport you ever tried behind a boat.  Not Kidding.
This also highlights the importance of footstraps.  These people were starting from scratch. But they couldn't mess up the foot placement.  I think I wasted 6 months of learning and not getting better because I didn't install straps.
I was under the impression you were better off using your back hand to hold the tow rope to help square your shoulders up parallel w/the rails. All the riders getting towed in this video are using their front hands. But I've yet to get behind a boat to tow and can't wait until the opportunity presents itself.
...and footstraps...yea, they look REALLY helpful! Would foot hooks be a better option?
One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

I agree 1000% with Denton that having pre-set foolproof foot placement is essential, and I too wasted at least 6 months not having foot hooks/straps.  I am still scared of foot straps on a SUP, and probably always will be.  I have heard of custom versions that "blow" open in wipe out or have break away bolts, and these sound somewhat appealing.  Currently I feel I have enough leverage with my foot hooks.  I have seen some gnarly wipeouts with straps and am terrified of going down fast and hard while strapped in.

My opinion is that loose straps are okay on a small tow board behind a boat.  My issue with straps on a SUP is the wide full volume board does not easily penetrate the water, and an awkward wipeout will tweak the ankles/knees.

Oh and when I use my backhand to tow it automatically squares up my body - puts me in a nice foil stance, seems almost impossible to stay hunched over...
Aloha, I welcome and appreciate all responses of positivity and good feeling.

Andrew Cassidy had my attention a while ago. Solid foiling! But I usually see his videos on Vimeo.

Great video from the Australians James Casey and JB from Naish.

This is long but if you are starved for information and want to learn some of the basics this will accelerate the thought process:
