Shark Eyes Deterrent Stickers
« on: September 08, 2017, 04:18:47 AM »
This is my take on how they work , sharks like to do a sneak attack they don't take on predators head on like two bears in the woods. The big eyes simply make them shy away. They have been designed by Abalone divers in Tasmania Australia where multiple divers have been taken by sharks. They started by putting eyes on the back of their wet suits and it works , so now they have made a sticker for the boards. The foils on my board do look like a stingray , favorite food for sharks so I am more than happy to test these out. For the price of a sticker on any ocean craft, it's maybe worth a look. It's an Aussie start up company , I'm nothing to do with them but happy to share it. Check out the full story here... sharkeyes.com.au/our-story

Can't hurt. I was thinking of painting my board to look like an Orca and transmitting Orca sounds....:)

I read the article on them, what an interesting idea! Luckily for me I live in an area where there are no sharks known to have ever harmed humans (Puget Sound/Salish Sea, WA State), but if I bring a board South of WA State, I'll put these on it for sure!

About the Orca sounds, them big cetaceans are everywhere up here, and I'd hate to use the wrong sounds, like a mating call or something - be careful what you wish for, stoneaxe :)

Orcas definitely have an impact on shark behavior...

I actually did have the thought about Orca sounds a few years back but when I looked into it what little research their was was inconclusive. I just Googled it and it looks like a study was done a couple years ago in AU and they found little response to sound, both loud noise and Orca calls were tested...though who knows if they used the Orca words for "I love Shark...tastes like chicken"

I don't think this is a bad idea, but those look like human eyes.  Two black dots would probably be just as effective...

I'm certain all these things will work perfectly. They'll reduce your risk of a shark attack from roughly one in five million to one in ten million.

I thought these stickers just look kind of cool. Never knew they actually had a purpose.

New Smyrna FL area gets more than their share of shark attacks. I think that area  averages about one attack a month (or so). If a sticker can drop their shark bite numbers then those sticker look even cooler in my eyes.

Can't hurt. Unless.

When I was "investigated" the mung on the Cape was so bad it was impossible to see literally an inch into the water.

I still believe that was a major factor in my visit from the landlord.

A cool anti-shark applique was glassed into the SharkBoy replacement board.

Big  shout out to Ian Cairns and Dave Daum who got the glass on instead of the decal.

has anyone here can tell us that this sticker actually work? A video evidence would be a good start.
