Kalapaki Beach in Lihue Kauai when I was there in May was pretty uncrowded.  There were some people out but not enough to call it a crowd.  From what I saw, definitely SUP friendly as the way the beach is set up its (SUS) really the only way you can surf.  I myself did not SUS there so while I can say it’s SUP friendly, I don’t know if it’s non local friendly.  They guys I saw in the parking lot were all local and somewhat big and intimidating.  Then again it’s a pretty touristy area by Kauai standards.

Uncrowded is hard, and I don't post my spots openly, but if you end up on the north shore of Oahu, PM me and I can give you a couple personal favorites that aren't on too many radars.

My experience, and I'm curious as to others view, is that, relatively speaking, there's a lot less SUP hate in Hawaii generally.

Uncrowded on Maui means paddling away from the crowded break and finding your own peak. Anywhere that there's no easy parking or a long paddle to reach the break is generally uncrowded.  There's no particular animosity towards SUP since even the diehards have friends that do it. Sometimes the tourists get huffy, but who cares. Having some haole guy tell you that you can't surf someplace is just wind, but if it's a Hawaiian guy or a local then it's good to listen. I really enjoy surfing at Kanaha because it's ideal for SUP--big mushburgers, such a forgiving place, and the rides go on forever, but there's a lot of SUPs and longboarders there.

Honolua and most of Ho'okipa are off limits--the remnants of a gentlemen's agreement made long ago. You'll see some SUPs at Ho'okipa, generally at Lanes but other spots too, but it's just not cool to paddle in to Trees or Pavillions unless you're mega local and good at managing your board under all conditions.

Agree that in Hawaii there's less "automatic hostility" towards SUP than in So Cal because almost everyone does it. On Kauai lots of people sup most of the spots in Hanalei, except when it gets really big.  The main issue is they all know each other and are as good or better than you.  On a decent day at the Point you're not gonna get a wave to yourself regardless of what you're riding.  I think there are more options for less crowded/out of the way spots on the north shores of Oahu or Maui.  I love Kauai, but it's not a destination for friendly, uncrowded waves.

Little old grandmas in Hawaii are better than me. I tell people there's no point in bragging about being a surfer in Hawaii. It's like getting all puffed up because you breathe. "Yup, I'm a breather..."
