I was out for an early morning paddle on Lake Tahoe, and there was a yoga class going through their routine. They were breathing, and meditating. Very peaceful. This guy shows up with a drone, and starts flying it about 20' off the ground right on the shoreline and kinda above the class. I was thinking, WTF! It was a quiet morning, no boats yet, and all the sudden this bee hive noise buzzing right over everyone's heads. I mean there are 1,000's of yards of beach, and he launches right next to the yoga class? I almost could have taken it out with my paddle. After about 3 minutes of him just hovering there, the instructor asked him if he could do that somewhere else? It was as if he didn't realize that there was anyone around. He looked at her with the blank stare, said nothing, and left. What a frick'n nimrod!
I get them following me when I'm paddling in the outer channel of the harbor all the time. I wish they would send me some of the footage so I could study my stroke. More and more I'll get buzzed by one in the line-up as well. None of them usually gets that close. One of my neighbors who I don't know personally, was flying one around my house and low enough to look in the upstairs windows. The second time it happened, I followed it to the next street and his house. I pounded on his door, but he wouldn't open it. I yell at him not to fly his drone in my back yard again. I think he heard me.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Sounds more like a peeping tom on roids. That happens to me, I'm loading my shotgun. That's a creep looking into windows. Not cool.

5' of fishing line with a machine nut on each end is a good solution.

Although, THIS is nice ,simple AND more quiet than a shotgun blast! Lol!

Cover the camera until you can get to the off switch and ya have a new drone! LOL!!!

There is a guy here in San Diego who does a lot of drone filming of surf breaks and puts them on youtube.  Mostly he films at Blacks when it is good but he goes around and films other beaches.  None of his videos look like he is  even close to the surfers he has some kind of camera with a really good zoom.  I like his videos and subscribe to his channel.  He posted a video where I was  surfing in the video and I had absolutely no clue the drone was there.  They are usually noisy as hell.  It kind of freaked me out how stealthy and how good the cameras are now if somebody has ill intents.  I think they need to be more closely regulated about flying them over private property.

"They" need to exercise some self-restraint or prepare to be restrained (regulated).

Too many morons per sq mile to make that happen.

I was at an event where there were a few different races being held and there was a couple of drones there flying around. Both of the guys were pretty cool about flying them around and everybody seemed to enjoy seeing them around in the air or closeup.

The Phantom was pretty noisy but the Mavic on the other hand was surprisingly quieter for sure. I managed to get some shots of both. You need to look closely for the Mavic since it's the darker of the two.

So next time this happens i have at least a dozen great suggestions on how to handle it. Guess i was a little too forgiving in the matter but it was my first encounter and i wasnt sure if thats just how it goes when drones are around. A carbon paddle vs. plastic propellers makes me think my blade wouldnt get damaged after all. My javelin skills will most likely be utilized if i ever encounter again. You guys are great!!
