Reds are in the lake again
« on: August 21, 2017, 02:33:39 PM »

Between workout runs I stopped to try to take pics and video of the Red spawning near where I put in the board on Cottonwood Lake. The salmon wash away weeds and mud right down to the stones on lake bottom to give the eggs space to breath. They are the only salmon spawning in the shallow warm lakes - all the others need fast moving creeks.

same video on youtube if it ever finishes processing...

That video link is your edit link. Won't work for anyone but you.

(worked for me but I had to have the mouse on the screen. take the pointer away off the screen and it stops.)

Awesome. You just reminded me I need to run up and check and see if ours are running. We got a few places but not quite like that. Are those Kokanee or Sockeye?
Ours run from the lakes into the creeks. They're Kokanee around here.
I know the Sockeye over in Idaho would run into the lakes from the ocean but that has been pretty decimated that far upstream but they are doing some things and they are making a slow comeback at least if nothing else to a hatchery just downstream of many of the lakes they used to run to.

Sockeye. Luckily we still have lots. My thread from last year has more from other portions of my usual route.
