Shark eats seal at Marconi
« on: August 15, 2017, 06:03:58 PM »
So I got my son the surf lesson,  he really liked it.  Got him set up with a board.  Now my wife can take him to the beach as it all fits in the car,  and who doesn't like the national seashore anyways.   He is stoked on the surfing.  4 hours Friday, Saturday, Monday and today.  She took him the last two days.
All is good till I get a frantic phone call that there had been a shark attack at the beach while Griff was out surfing.   Turns out a seal got his hind end bit off right in front of my wife close to the beach while my son was out surfing.   She had told me an hour earlier that he was out a bit farther than she liked.    I talked to them after everyone calmed down.   Seal got bit, made it to shore, and died soon after.   I was worried that Griff's surf career was over for the time being,  but he was not phased by this.   And no decree from the Mrs.  P.   Maybe one more Cape day and we will be in RI mostly as school starts soon.

Good to hear no panic....it's what they do. I'm fine when there are seals around...it's when they all suddenly disappear that I start to look around.

I was surfing in front. Heard whistles. Wind came on shore. All of a sudden I am the only guy in the water. Why why why?

Got out and heard what happened; saw the carcass floating.

Not a relaxing day..

Nice that your wife didn't declare the ocean off-limits.

Going into the busy season. Another seal attacked by great white at Nauset Beach in front of hundreds of beach goers yesterday 8-21-17. Cape Kook went up in spotter plane with pilot Wayne Davis and spotted 30+ great whites. Be alert out the

Heres the video on cape cod times, from the sounds of people yelling, screaming, and crying it was a full blown panic shit show.

My question is why did the surfer ditch his longboard to rather swim frantically to shore? Wouldn't he have been faster to shore by paddling on the board? Even just swimming having the board leashed to his leg would slow him down considerably?

I'm just glad the shark didn't get Mr Big !!

Re:  Kook's 30 sharks.

Glad to hear it was from the plane,  from your FB comment I had assumed He saw 30 from his boat.  Makes me feel a bit safer ...

Bob its all over the local news, he's fine but said the explosiveness was like being on a bicycle and getting hit by a truck. He's currently getting bombarded by the news for interviews etc.. Mr. Big, next years Shark Week zoner celebrity.

Taking my son for a surf day tomorrow ...  In RI.    Last week of no school.   We were planning on Pt Judith anyways,  not sure his mom would have approved of the cape after this one.

Looking forward to a post from Mr Big.  Glad he is OK.
