Universal Roof Rack?

On the road for a while and I have yet to secure a single roof rack from car rentals companies.
securing a board on a bare roof gets old pretty fast.

Does anyone own a good universal roof rack that will fit most cars?
preferably something one could travel with though not a deal breaker.

Searching for one shows up many results but it's hard to discern which would really work.

Try an inflatable roof rack.

I've been using this one I bought from one of the Zoner vendors - think it was Ralph.  Works fine  for short distances, haven't been on highways.  Comes with a carry-bag for travel.

Just had a client drive up from Malibu without a rack on her Range Rover to buy a board...sent her back home safely with a HandiRack...

Haven't had, seen, or heard of one problem in that time...
We've also put them to the test carrying SUPs off road in 4X4 down in the Baja and Central America...no problemos...

Today I just drove 2 hours on the highwy with a 10' and 11.6' surf style board on the roof.

If you are ever in a pinch with a rental car and no racks, two straps with a "clean" deck pad to the roof will do the trick as well, if not better, than any soft rack.
