Many ski resorts are over 3 hour drives from major cities. Tahoe is 3.5 hour drive from SF bay without traffic. Mammoth is 4.5 hour drive from LA. Yet droves of people make the drive.
Imagine how much the surf industry would expand if there was a KellyLand in landlocked states? It would give access to those who never even thought about surfing. People who usually only buy khaki shorts will end up buying board shorts. Kelly Slater can make more money than he ever did as a pro surfer if he plays his cards right.
