$299 Costco Wave Storm Update.

 My friend (another Steve) went out on it today and it surfed surprisingly good.

Paddleon (Craig) had one out at Privates with his daughter and he said he was enjoying it.  It looks reasonably floaty.

I looked one of the new ones over pretty carefully at the Event Center in Hood River. It's pretty nice. I like the rails, I like the bottom, I like the general shape. Looks like they either paid a good shaper or copied the right board.

Flat water today at the EC--not a breath of wind, so I took the grandsons down to paddle. Ran into a lady who worked for our agency almost from the beginning--super talent, hard driver, very smart. She bought a vacation place here in Hood River. She, her husband, and two kids were out paddling SUPs and the youngest was on a Costco Taquito. He needed some work on his stroke, but he was flying around like a waterbug. Impressive that the board worked so well for him. I've never seen a beginner kid do a banked turn in flatwater. He was leaning in, getting up on a rail, and turning hard and tight. Must be just how short and curved the board is. It was pretty startling.

Was in Costco in Maui today and Taquitio's were $79 with a paddle. Regular 8' Wavestorm was $114.
Speaking of Wavestorm's, the best surfer I saw at Thousand Peaks today was about a 15yr old kid absolutely tearing it up on one in pretty marginal conditions.

My wife just brought home two of them for her and the kids to use.  $299 is a good price for board, bag/sock, leash and paddle.

Sounds ideal to stock a rental fleet if the biz was pure rental - no intentions of selling boards.

Yup, there was a stack of them at the Clackamas store last time I was there. As a result, I'm seeing them all over Hood River lately.

They've hit LA too. A guy was out on one and surfed it right into the shore. Hopefully when he gets his real board he will unlearn that move.

Looked fun but he wasn't catching anything. Who's gonna be first to mount a foil?

Holy crap - no wonder prone surfers hate us.

Please, if you are this dire at SUP surfing, go and practice for a LONG TIME far far away from anyone else first, and preferably don't let anyone see you. Or take some supervised lessons until you aren't a total liability.

You should see me trying to surf a paddleboard. Hell,even sharks are afraid to get near me     I finally reconciled to long tours and doing downwinders on my F14 and just call it surfing !!!
