Hawaii in August?

Hey all,

My wife and I might have a kid-free week in mid/late August and are thinking of heading to one of the Hawaiian islands for 5 or 6 days.  We've been to Oahu, Kauai and Maui, but never in the summer months.  We'd be looking for fun intermediate surf/SUP.  Any recommendations on where we might want to look into for some relatively consistent summer surf (we'll bring our own boards)?

South Shore Oahu is generally consistently on all summer. Last summer was one of the worst in a while for surf, but that shouldn't happen twice.

Thanks.  That was my first thought too. I haven't been there since I was a teenager.  And it was before I surfed....and we pretty much headed straight to the north shore after one or two nights in the city.

Any stand-out towns or villages to stay besides Honolulu along that shore?

Does the west shore pick up the south summer swell?

I still stand by my Ala Moana comments in that thread. I still think its the safest bet out there and where I will probably be in the summer. The West Shore will pick up some summer swells and is kinda becoming known for having tons of foiling potential.

It is actually a great spot and fun beach. With the recent rain storms we've been having in SoCal, the signs are up here as well.

I haven't been to Maui in the summer for years, but when I was, the south and west shores were big fun. A lot more spread out than Oahu. My experience surfing the south side of Oahu is a limited number of breaks. Maui is speckled with them.
