Scuba Jet
« on: May 31, 2017, 05:21:23 PM »
Stumbled onto this today (via King's)...

Cool idea, but I'm not keen on having to pay to register my SUP with the DMV to use such an item.

In CA, any vessel that is propelled by mechanical means is required to be registered with the DMV.

The state of Texas has the same rules when a propulsion unit is attached to a kayak or sup since these items would now be considered a motorized vessel. And a motorized vessel must display TX registered numbers on both sides of said vessel.

And you're supposed to only cross the street at crosswalks. Electric bikes can only have 750 watts on the street. The speed limit is 55.

Supposed to drive the speed limit also.  Just pretend you are paddling.  People will think your an animal!

These things look like a blast and I'd love to try them out, but I agree — the registration requirement would be a huge hassle.
Happy paddling,

I'm kind of stunned by the price. 1800 bucks, and the biggest battery is 400wh. Assuming 1HP (750watts) that's 30 minutes for the big battery. I guess that's not bad, but that "big" battery is an extra 580 euros. I want three HP and at least an hour of run time. Gonna have to build it, I guess.

Ideas have their time and it sucks to be early.

I remember when WaveJets were the kookiest thing in the world but add a foil and they are now the height of fun.

I love the idea of these things but it's got to sting those guys who blew all that money on that system to see these hitting the market and getting hype.

Pono, you're right on the spec, but $1800 is pretty cheap compared to the efoil thing just a few months ago. We're headed for the $1,000 mark by next year for sure.
