Sunova paddle blade size?
« on: May 19, 2017, 05:11:44 AM »
Does anyone know what size blades are on the Sunova paddles?

The website has no useful info and seems outdated.

The Sunova paddle I have is silver with a wave graphic on the blade.

Sunova might not know. They may just buy them from a Chinese paddle maker like most other board manufacturers. You can trace the blade onto graph paper and count squares. Add the half and quarter squares on the edges together and you'll be as close as anyone else. There's no real convention about where to start counting but I do it from the point where the swelling of the junction is twice the width of the shaft.

Thanks Bill. That was easy. I did as you suggested and came up with 90 square inches.

That's more than I thought it was. I may trim it down to around 82. The lower third of the blade is very thin with no core to worry about.

These are very well made paddles and super light. Ninety square inches is a little big for me though.

Lots of really good paddles coming out of china--at least as far as construction goes. Chinese manufacturers still lag on design, I assume it's because there aren't that many people actively using the products in-country, but it's tough to fault their production capability. Doesn't mean there isn't a lot of crap, quality control is always an issue. But the molds are generally high quality aluminum instead of simpler and less precise fiberglass.
