Surfside, Texas
« on: May 17, 2017, 08:23:23 AM »
Because of my spider bite last year (2016) which left an open wound that wouldn't scab over, it took 8 weeks to finally heal so I was able to get back on the water in early September and I only got one sup surfing session with my Hammer at Surfside (Texas) during the middle of October when the Pacific fronts again start to have enough "push" (don't stall out before they get to Surfside) to pass through.

One of the closest places for me to actually catch some good waves to sup surf is at Surfside, Texas. Below are two drone videos showing Surfside. One was taken on March 30, 2017 after a Pacific front had passed through. The waves are really uniform and one can catch a very nice ride. This video has been on here once before, but it is worth seeing again.

The second drone video was taken on July 26, 2016 when a high pressure ridge (dome) of air sits over the state of Texas and suppresses the wind so the Gulf is pretty flat wave wise. In this video the Surfside jetties are easily seen. BTW, the locals have two names for these jetties.

Standing on the beach looking out towards the Gulf of Mexico, the jetty on the left is known by the locals as the Surfside Jetty. The jetty to the right is known by the locals as the Quintana Jetty since to the right of this jetty at it's base is the small community of Quintana. The second video is very nice too since the drone takes off going out towards the Gulf and then comes back in towards the beach. The parking lot is usually quite crowded on the weekends.

I'm hoping I don't have any complications from the bone spur removal/rotator cuff repair surgery I had on March 29th (2017) and I can get back to Surfside to catch a Pacific front pass through during the middle of October for a sup surf session during the week days.

I hope you heal nicely and can get back on the water soon!  Thanks for the videos!
