The Stairs
« on: May 15, 2017, 08:13:30 AM »
Anyone holding out hope on the Marconi stairs?....better find another way

I biked in there this weekend.  Absolutely no work in progress...timber left over from the takedown storm.
There are survey flags down as if they will have to chunk into the cliff 20 yards north of the prior steps.

Cliff face looks too steep to trust.  No heavy equipment in parking lot...nothing

A parkee said they are hoping for July 4th, but has a ghost town look.

Too many for the rack
Some in the shack
Some under decks

Nauset light beach got stairs repaired 2 years in a row.   Did those survive ?   Seems like Marconi was better last few years break wise,  and of course the parking lot is huge.   Bummer is right,  don't expect things to happen too fast with the feds.     jp

ha ha.... they aren't fixing anything now because there is no money in it.
They seem to get things done when the tourists shows up.

So much for servicing the people who actually GAVE them all that pristine waterfront property.

Good to hear that it looks like the new spot will be 20 yards north of the prior spot. 20 yards less to carry my board while doing the slalom around tourist and seal peepers. It will get done. How many cars fit there on one hot summer weekend in July X $20 a pop?
The government is not stupid when it comes to revenue.

They are missing out on $ starting this weekend.   Nauset light beach was out of commission quite a bit last few seasons due to the stairs.

I heard July 4th but if you go on the Massachusetts National Seashore Facebook page there is a photo of the new construction. I think it will be done sooner. Hopefully...

Have't looked at the photos
Took another bike in yesterday
3 pickups...no heavy equipment, and no lumber...but at least there is action

If they can get the footings, yeah the stairs will zip

Saw the photos
I guess they are not going to re-slope if they are putting the top step/deck in first

That's where the flags were, so a tad north of the old

That means they will have to do it again in a few years, but hey it will go faster...

So yeah, 6 guys marching downslope...it can be done for July 4th

Stairs open for business today.   Temporary look to them not even made with pressure treated wood.   Maybe why bother .   Was there at high tide,  but not a strong tide today,  decent swell, and the water was CLOSE.  Looks like that stretch of beac lost some sand in a semi permanent sense.    Glad to see it open.   Not sure how,  but its way more vert to get down.    Jp
