So the Lord himself visited my corner of the world to promote new technology.

He picked the most surfed spot on the coast. Though the day pictured wasn't all that great, it was probably the only ridable spot for the prone crowd.  The better locals weren't out.

This is my favorite spot. However it's highly localized and sup unfriendly. When I go  out there, best behavior and thick skin for the love directed my way.

Needless to say, when the homeboys got wind of this vid, they went bonkers.
He set me way back to be accepted there.

Doesn't look like any proner nor regular SUP surfer could have gotten anywhere
near the utilization of those waves (swells) that Laird was getting.

But yeah...haters of SUP surfing, I think, will really come unglued about
SUP Foil Surfing or even prone foils surfing. 

It will be interesting when or if foiling ever hits Santa Cruz.
I'd love to try it at Cowells when the swells are coming up but not breaking
but, you might get lots of ear fulls, even though no regular surfers could catch
those swells that aren't breaking at that time of day (tide).

Watching laird foil those waves looked really fun.

It sucks to feel unwelcome.  No one need put up with that crap.

You'll never win anyone over who sees that video and goes ballistic. The kind of person who does will hate anyone who isn't doing what they are doing. It's funny to me that they consider themselves the "true believers" since they are only doing one thing--the same thing--over and over.

I respect and understand that you're trying to win their acceptance through good etiquette, but seriously. Anyone who sees that video who doesn't think "I want to get me some of that" is not worth the effort.  Harden the fuck up and ignore the whiners.

Two quick observations:

1) The foils have very little in common with the proners. Watching them gracefully glide through long radius turns and then "huntington hop" down the next peak was amazing. The proners there just looked crude by comparison.

2) My French has atrophied to the point where I caught maybe every tenth word or so from the photographer. "Just as soon as they start cutting babies in half ..... " I think that's what he said. Or it could have been "That laird is slacking, he promised to bring Gabbie (hubba hubba) but she had to stay home with the babies..."

You have to understand, he didn't call me up and ask, "please take me out to one of those empty lineups in your videos".

He went out at the Rincon of this coast. This is the Swamis of your town. 

I'll be dreading my next paddle out there.
I'll probably surf alone by my house.

Maybe the opposite is true... Maybe Laird moved the bar for you... Maybe the locals have identified a new enemy and you'll be welcomed (or ignored) as just an old school stand up who is not trying to mow anyone down with a flying blade...
