Some shots
« on: September 24, 2007, 07:56:40 AM »
Randy Royse is one of those guys with the patience to sit out a few wave to get some shots and videos of the action.  He emailed over a great series of photos of the Maui crowd today.  I have posted them to the gallery.

Here are a few:

number 4 is impressive!!! I won't dare to drive with this construction on top. I certainly wont follow this truck either  :)

and number 2, what is this? how short? how wide? how does it behaive? Certainly not a cruiser, but how easy it takes off and how easy does it surf? any website for this one?

whoever invented the hole... knew nothing.

Hi guys,
I would love to take credit, but Randy Royse provided all of these (the other Randy-that is him pictured in the gallery shot).

I do not know much about the wide fish, just that it was described to me has having been built (by Sam) entirely from construction leftovers (pads from Walmart).  I am sure someone who knows will jump in with details or if any of that is incorrect.

Great photos! The first one really captures the range of SUPing. I only really paddle on the flat so that person is almost doing a totally different sport to me!

Cool pics thanks. The first shot is pretty damm heavy. I hope to ride some big waves on my SUB, but......er......that is BIG.......LOL

The fish looks like it is incredibly WIDE..........maybe its just the angle but it looks like it is 35 to 40 inches. Probably fun to try but not sure it would perform to well in waves. I would love to try it though!

That's only 1/4 of Mike Richardson's quiver... Must be moving day.

Is that Jeremy R. with his 12 footer. I hear that is the one. I don't know how well most of us would od on a 24" wide board like that.

Here's what I know about the fish:

- it's about 8 feet long (don't remember how wide and thick)
- it got no rocker at all
- the guy in the photo shaped it himself and he's a supernice guy
- I've never seen anybody going so fast on the slow mushy waves of Thousand peaks... unreal.

I feel like mentioning that when most of the world didn't even know what SUP surfing was (that means a couple of years ago), Sean Ordonez was already ripping at Hookipa on his 8.something SUP fish...

Here you go.  Scroll through to the bottom and second page.   http://www.standupzone.com/forum/index.php?topic=102.15

Some cat named Chambers was experimenting with a short, wide fish in the way back as well.

By the way, most of the world still doesn't know what Stand Up is.  A gal from Minnesota stopped us after our paddle yesterday, and asked us, "What is that, like... Cross Country Surfing or something?"  Made my day. :)

From the angle of picture #3, the tail has a profile you would see on a prone paddleboard.  Do you know if that board meant for surfing?

It's got a Bill Foote logo, you could send him an email.

I agree that be one of the few is really cool.  I too, enjoy people asking me what I was doing as I exit the water.  They are pretty amazed.  I am fortunate enough to have been a surfer for almost 45 years, so it brings back the memories of surfing foreign countries many years ago when people had not yet even seen surfing.  Hard to imagine these days.
Lots of foil boards 6’7”-7’4”, L41 TVD’s and Jimmy Lewis Strikers..

I saw that guys fish in a magazine. It's advertised as 32" wide by 8'. It was captioned as "The worlds smallest stand up paddle board". I guess they haven't seen the 7'7 'flame ball stand up company' board...

That picture is me riding a Parmenter 8'8" fish.   Its the first ever fish shaped and Dave made it a few years ago long before Merrick did his quote, "First ever Stand Up Fish"     I think its really cool to see so many new designs popping up all over the place...   Short boards less than 9' are fun but the glide of a 10 footer doesn't get old in the right waves....
