Super fun board for summer or rolling open-faced wave due to the wide tail.  I found the wide tail to be a liability in steeper wave for being unresponsive.  The one I rode (friend's board) was an 8'0x30 (don't know the volume) and it was super easy to stand on and to paddle into the wave.  I'm at 145 lbs and my boards (except for the long SUPs) are in the sub-100 liters range.  Call Dave for a meet-up at either San Onofre or Cardiff Reef to demo, if you can.

I owned two different models of the L41 8' Simsups but didn't like the wide tails. The Kings Laser is similar to his Simmons but with a narrower nose. So then I bought an 8-4 Kings Laser thinking/hoping that maybe the super surfy rails, rocker and thinned out ends would make the difference. (It's still in my avatar image to the left.) Nope, that didn't work either. The super wide tails FOR ME track in anything bigger than shoulder high which seems weird considering I weigh about 195 wet. They are okay for down the line surfing though but break a line and there's just too much stuff in the back. Your results may vary though so if you can demo one then go for it.

Have ridden a buddy's 7'6" x 30" King's Simmons. Fast and skatey in smaller waves; King's also makes a Super Simmons which is not as wide in the tail.

Have owned a WCT with a pulled in tail; an SS; and a Laser.

Meet up with Dave and see if you like his boards..
Let it come to you..
