Current favorite deckpad?
« on: April 18, 2017, 07:23:08 PM »
Okay, so I have a custom Rawson on order that is coming to me 'barebones' so I'm looking for a deckpad for it. I'm hoping to track down an old x-trax pad. Is anyone making a Closed cell EVA foam pad these days or is there something else better now? I haven't really been paying attention to pads for a while. Not really looking for wax or hexatraction since I like the padding under my feet.

If you like X-Trak, check out Seadek (who made X-Trak).
http://www.seadek.com/c-5-sheet-material.aspx
The embossed version is the X-Trak pattern...
I have the "brushed" version. Super comfy eva foam and has good grip when wet.

From an aesthetic perspective, my favorite is StoneAxe's deckpad that he applied in small pieces to a board he had at the Wellfleet SUPathon a few years back. My wife still remembers him as "the guy with the board that looked like a stained-glass window"!   :D

Take a look at NSI's deck pad material (cut to fit). Particularly the dual density option (1/8” 5# EVA laminated under ¼” EVA top material).

I've had two sups (so far). My first sup was a Hobie ATR-2, 12'2"x32" and the pad on it hurt the bottom of my feet and since I'm only 147 pounds (at the moment), it shouldn't have hurt my feet like that since it was a thick pad. Much thicker than 3mm.

My second sup is my present SUP Sports 8'11"x31" Hammer and the pad on it is very comfortable. If my memory serves me correctly, I think the pad is 3mm in thickness.

Sup Sports Hammer: 8'11" x 31" x 4" @ 140 Liters
SUP Sports One World: 11'1" x 30" x 4.5" @ 173 Liters
CJ Nelson Parallax: 9'3" x 23 1/2" x 3 3/16" @ 78.8 Liters (prone surfing longboard; Thunderbolt Technologies build in Red construction)

Follow up question: has anyone ever played with putting an archbar in the middle of your board for your front foot? I love having the rear arch. Do you think having something upfront to get your foot positioning right would help?

FCS Dimple with a traditional (or sup sized) surf tail pad.

Moved to this setup on my Pocket Rocket when my deck pad died and loved it.  Will do the same when my next stock pad wears out.
