new toys ( coreban 8'10" platinum)
« on: April 07, 2017, 06:30:32 AM »
Ok so I picked up a few new toys recently.  I basically buy most stuff used or on sale along with a change in jobs.  So let’s get to the list of new fun stuff.

Coreban 8’10”  Platinum:   8’10”  by  29”  by  4. 1/3” and  125L.  Bought used over the past summer.

So now to ride reports:

Rider dimensions: 5’10” 190-195, athletic

Coreban 8’10” Platinum.  This board I am having a love hate relationship with at the moment only because I have not had it in good conditions to really test it. I bought from a fellow zoner last summer. I have been trying to wait til I had some good waves to really report on this board, but have not scored yet with it.  I have had it out 3 times.  All of the 3 times have never panned out.  In Florida here, I probably need a good hurricane swell with some juice to get this thing going.  All three days that I had it out were about head high.  But it was chop mixed in with swell and bumpy.  Although this board states it is 125L, I still find it very tippy.   So when I had underlying swells with chop on top of it, it made it hard to dig and get power to catch waves. BUT.  Some of the few waves I have ridden on this board, IT RIPPED!  Hitting the lip frontside or backside was no problem. You can be as aggressive as you want with the board and it will follow through. The sweet spot on the platinum like the platinum plus seem to be a little further forward on the board than you would expect. I was riding it as a quad with the stock coreban futures set.  It has a nice deep ledge handle which makes it easy for carrying and the carbon construction makes it feel pretty light at 15.2 lbs. with the deck pad and no fins. This board and my jimmy lewis  8’7” stun gun are very similar,  I know, I know why have similar boards. A) because I can, and B) because I like trying new stuff.  I may sell one or the other or both just because I am finding I am not really using them for the waves in my area.  Still thinking about it.

If my memory serves me correctly, in my research of sups, I think Nicki Carstens is now shaping sups in Africa.
Blue Planet Duke: 10'5" x 32" x 4.5" @ 190 Liters (2 Dukes)
Sup Sports Hammer: 8'11" x 31" x 4" @ 140 Liters
SUP Sports One World: 11'1" x 30" x 4.5" @ 173 Liters
CJ Nelson Parallax: 9'3" x 23 1/2" x 3 3/16" @ 78.8 Liters (prone surfing longboard; Thunderbolt Technologies build in Red construction)

these are great reviews- really appreciate when people take the time to write and post these.

Really like this board.  very much the shape and size I'm hoping pops up used here in NJ now that I dont have a winter wave board.

My stats are very similar to your Ninja- although im 200 in summer 210(ish) in winter.

so im frothing over this whole quiver!!!

Safe bet since Coreban is a South African company--Capetown.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Yes they are out of South Africa, but I do not think he is with coreban anymore.  He is being shown on another company's page called signature surf.  http://signaturesurf.com/sup-series/
