It's not all bad.  At least they mentioned that pfds by themselves may not give you enough safety, and you should also wear a leash...oops, I mean helmet.

Yesterday I found myself amidst the Baby Beach harbor weekend SUP scene. It was Sunny, clam and high 70's. There were hundreds for SUP's littering the water, the beach, the grass, the parking lots, and car racks. I was adding to it. I overheard an older couple who had just purchased a matching set of red, white and blue 'SUP USA' all arounders. The gentleman was talking to a guy next to him who had a new Lahui Kai race board on his racks. The guy was telling the older gentlemen that if he gets serious about paddling, he should consider a displacement type of board. The older gentleman replied "the guy who sold me these boards, which by the way I got a great deal on, said that all the boards are basically made at the same place in China. They just have different colors and sizes."  ??? ;D Love it!

It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

I wouldn't be surprised if the listed brands hadn't "bought into this" ... literally.

It is simply a case of referrals for Amazon (or eBay). Send a customer who buys something, get a % of that sale. Most of these sites will lead you to Amazon and somewhere it'll say something about being an Amazon affiliate. They don't offer anything other than trying to get you to click the "check prices", then you're in the system as their referral.

Pretty much equally true for phones, appliances, shoes--pretty much everything but cars and maybe internet brides...made in the same factory in China, they just have different colors and sizes.

MADE IN THE SAME FACTORY...

Well technically correct but if you know the "Cobra System" All these brands are different in more than colors and size Whoever says/thinks that is a uninformed purveyor of Urban Ledgends

BTW

I know SUNOVA is not made at Cobra...I'm sure the the informed folks here can name LOTZ of others

Most of those are pretty mediocre boards too, even for beginners.

It's obviously time for the Babcock brothers to do another SUP board showcase, it's been at least a decade.
I think the boards changed a little bit, and there's just a few more on the market, not that many.
Inquiring minds need to know.  ;)
It takes a quiver to do that.

Who buys into this?

https://wiki.ezvid.com/best-paddleboards?id=bng

You've heard of fake news, welcome to fake reviews. Starts off with a lie--"we put 27 hours into this". Maybe into building the site. The scam is somewhat complex. They may or may not get paid a commission the manufacturer, but you'll note that all the links go to Amazon with a long URL that includes their affiliate number. If you buy the board they get paid by Amazon. Even better, if you buy anything else during that browsing session on Amazon, they get a commission on all the sales. Or at least they used to. Amazon plays with this stuff all the time.

Ahhh, who can pass up a good Top 10 list!  Here's mine based on what I've ridden (obviously super subjective)...fun to run through them:

1.) Kronos Nutter Butter (7'5 x 26, 87 L)
My gateway to what shortboard SUPing might feel like. Some out-of-the-box design delivers a great balance of performance and stability. Plus, bottom turns with sidecut are fun.

2.) Infinity asym RNB (7'6 x 28, 95 L)
A quiver killer. If I didn't love exploring gear and didn't had a drive to push myself a bit, this would be the only board I needed. Stable and surfy. We don't surf straight and have more leverage on the toe side.  7'4 on the heel rail and 7'6 on the toe--smooth!

3.) L41 ST (7'8 x 30, 119 L)
Fun fun fun. Even with it being too big for me, this board is crazy fun. It was the first board I SUPed that was shorter than 9-feet and it changed everything. Stable, loose...there is definitely some secret sauce in there (though maybe not all that secret). I sold it to my buddy who is bigger than me and it looks great under his feet (see pics). I'd love to try a smaller one.

4.) Kronos Longboard (8'10 x 26.5, 84 L)
Thin rails! A low volume longboard SUP that feels like a surfboard. After a spring/summer season of small waves, I realized I needed a bit of cruise in the quiver. I've only had a few sessions on it so far but it turned what would have been some below average days into a blast.

5.) Sunova Speeed (9'2 x 30.25, 148 L)
This one would probably make a lot of Top 10 lists here on the Zone. It was way too big for me, but I appreciated its design and got to experience the magic tail. The real reason why this makes my list is it belongs to my buddy's Dad. He's 67 and new to surfing and SUPing. It's been great for him (see pics below).

6.) Infinity Pheonix V3 (7'3 x 28, 94 L)
The first board I stood on under 100 L and the reason I started looking into a 95 L RNB. And I got to watch the owner rip a few waves apart on it. I was like a wide-eyed kid at a candy store. Plus I'm a sucker for elevated wings.

7.) SUP Sports Stoke (9'6 x 32, 165 L)
Classic shape. Great rocker. Way too big for me, but it helped take my buddy's surfing up a couple of notches.

8.) Hoby CM Raw Longboard (9'0 x 30, 135 L)
My first go on a light longboard SUP before I had tried shorter boards. More volume than I needed, but it sure was fun to make turns on a board with lower swing weight. Opened my eyes to how much board weight effected performance.

9.) C4 BK Pro (10' x 27, 109 L)
Relative to the 150-170 L boards of the day, this was low volume and tippy as sh-t. But on a wave, it felt really really cool. Got us really thinking about the benefits of reducing the foam. Plus, it was the first SUP I got to carry with a center handle (added after market).  Talk about a game changer!

10.) Surftech Laird (10' x 27, 150 L)
My first SUP.  It felt like a barge and it was back when I could prone so unless the waves were double over-ankle, I took out a surfboard.  But even still, when things were small or we felt like switching things up, we had fun on these older SUPs.
