This is the epitome of perfect.  Perfect foiling conditions which means too mushy and weak for regular prone surfing.  I saw this clip in my Facebook feed and this very guy (Keahi de Aboitiz ) said ideally the best wave for foiling is when it’s not actually breaking.  This looks like pure bliss.

Truly dreamy.  This makes me wonder more what the heck is going on.

The question is how catchable are the 'non breaking' waves?  On my 12 foot board I can catch waves that are otherwise Un-Catchable because they are:
  • Too Small for Prone Surfers to Catch
  • Too BIG and fast for prone surfers to catch

What will be amazing is if the Foil board catches as well as my 12 foot Paddle Surf Hawaii gun but be as maneuverable as a short board.  It appears as though this may be the case.

That is a nice drone video. Even though these foil boards are not for me, I sure do like watching videos of them.

Thanks for sharing this video.

Interesting.... Keahi has both feet in front of the mast.... must be a lot of lift in that front wing!

Makes it look really fun and useful. Perfect empty swell to fly around on  :)

Wow that looks so fun!  And for me this is the perfect place to foil surf, thanks for sharing.

The video wasn't showing up for me so I am reposting it:

Yup, looks like deep water, uncrowded, and either un-breaking or barely breaking large, shallow swells.

My thought is it would the a "high tide" board around Santa Cruz at times when a lot of surfers might be washed out with uncatchable swells, anyway, and then change over to a regular board when the tide drops.

I didn't get the original video either.

I've found that since the upgrade I have some big blanks where videos should be.

Good for Cowells when the swell is coming up pretty good but not breaking.
It is usually empty during those conditions which are quite often.
Anyone seen one there yet?
Love to see one ridden in person.

Also, no kelp except along the rocks.
Kelp could be a big problem here.

Yeah I wonder about the kelp and if high tide might be foil able?  Wonder if the bounce off the cliff will effect the foil?

There is that spot on the other side of the lighthouse that is often soft and swamped, if the kelp isn't a problem that could a dreamy spot to foil?

There is the area just off Privates going towards Sharks out from the cement wall.  At low tide, there tend to be rapid closeouts but at high tide, the swells come in, rise in a shallow area then don't really break but remain swells going in to a deeper part.
There is kelp on the outside but not around where the swells rise up.  However, you would have to be sure to end the ride before going into the more shallow Privates reef.

Also, second break at Privates going toward Trees when the tide is high, lots of non breaking swells can come in there and the water can be deeper.

Yup, it looks like foils would be a good way to exploit the high tide swells when ordinarily you wouldn't go out to surf at all because the waves would be washed out or wouldn't break.  There are those odd times when there are "perma high tides" when the moon/sun alignment and earth tilt keep tides above 3 feet for as long as 18 hours around Santa Cruz.

I does seem a foil can be used to expand options, since I will only go out at the lower tides bracketed by the 3 feet tide mark.
