Just when I was about to pull the trigger on the Naish, a 2014 Riviera 404 Zedonk 14 just came on the market for $500 in my area. How does this board compare to the Naish I'm considering still remembering that I primarily want a board for DW.

Don't have specific experience with the Zeedonk, but that's a great price for an entry board (if it's watertight) that gets you out on the water.  Probably a more conventional shape which will help you get more specific about your preferences.  You can get more particular and shell out more $$ for the second board.

Pintail Zeedonk is very lightweight, kind of fragile construction. Good shape for all around racing and probably downwinding, but don't bonk it on the rocks or leave it out in the sun. Pintail Zeedonk was my first raceboard. http://jimbodouglass.blogspot.com/2014/11/new-sup-404-14-pintail-zeedonk.html

IMO too tippy and the wrong rocker for DW.. but better than the Naish on flat water.

I pulled the trigger on the Naish. PonoBill you were right on target with the price. He originally had the board priced at $850 then dropped it to $795. I offered him $500. and used the feedback you all gave me as rational for my offer. He wouldn't go that low but we settled at $550! The board is in nearly perfect condition, only has a small scratch on it.

Now I need to figure out what paddle to buy!

Thank you all for your guidance.

There are so many paddles to choose from. Best advice is to spend a little extra if you can, and get something good. You won’t regret having a good paddle. I’m not a downwinder, so I can’t comment on the length of paddle, but don’t get too large a blade. I made that mistake on my first paddle. I’m 5’ 8” and weigh about 150 pounds. The paddle I’m using now has a 75 sq. inch blade and it’s just about right for me.

Other thing I really like, and something you might consider, is an adjustable paddle. It will add some weight to the paddle, but it does give you a lot of flexibility. I’ve been SUP’ing for a few years now, and still find myself adjusting my paddle length depending on the circumstances and also what board I’m on. I would especially advise an adjustable paddle being that you are new to the sport. You may find that as you get more experience the length of paddle you want will change. I know that I started with a much longer paddle than I’m using now.

Hope this helps.
