Your experience mirrors mine exactly. I find in lumpy choppy waterbthe nose can dig under on take off if you don't weight it right. An amazing board on clean days.....soooooooo much fun.

It doesn't have a lot of nose rocker and the nose has a lot of area.  That might be why it paddles so fast and can be trimmed to maintain/gain speed.  Regardless of whether the conditions are choppy or clean, you do need to step back when making the drop.
