Free Endomondo App on Android and SUP Tracking
« on: December 10, 2016, 01:54:17 PM »
Just wondering if anyone else is using Endomondo to track their training?  I have the free app on my Android smartphone (S7) and use it all the time to track my outings. It uses the phone's GPS to track distance, speed, etc AND it picks up my heart rate from my chest strap and provides calorie burn as well as average and max heart rate. It automatically updates my activity and calorie burn info to MyFitnessPal app on my Chromebook so I have a record of all my fitness activity saved for review at any time. I think it is great and I highly recommend it. By the way,  even though my S7 is waterproof,  I keep it in a ziplock bag inside my fanny pack and so far so good. My Sony Experia Z3v was also waterproof,  but I guess it took one too many short swims and failed about 3 months short of being paid for......so when anybody says "waterproof"....take it with a grain of salt!  My "waterproof" Garmin 78sc also failed just 3 months out of warranty. But I sent it back and Garmin sent me a "reconditioned" unit for $90.....and so far it has been fine....but I don't expect it to last more than a year based on passed experience. Still impressed though with what all these small gadgets are capable of doing and what pleasure they have brought me. Worth the expense I think.

I use the app although I have synced my TomTom account with Endomondo. It is a very cool app. What would be nice is the social aspect because as you friend people on the app you can see the training other people are doing.
Using an app has also made me conscious of how much (or little) I train.

At my age and skill level I don't anticipate ever being at "competition level".  But using the Endomondo app as well as MyFitnessPal app I challenge myself and it motivates me to keep going. I think and feel like it has really helped me with my health and fitness goals. Very much like monitoring the Standupzone forum,  it provides motivation and keeps me going.  ;)

I use endomondo. It’s good. Decent user interface, nice summaries and is very economical on the battery.

The best thing about it is you can share your actual route progress with [endomondo] friends. So if you go out to sea or away in the mountains alone you can let a friend know and they can then keep an eye on your progress real-time online. One of the basic rules is going into the wilderness alone.

Watch “127 hours” or read “Between a Rock and a Hard Place” if you don’t already know what I’m talking about.

And I like how you can go back and look at the graph of each mile of your track and see how your speed and heart rate changed. I also like the fact that the app runs using my phone's gps BUT at the same time is NOT using any of my data allowance. And the app automatically transfers my activity and calorie burn to MyFitnessPal where I track my meals and such. Very cool....and I like the FREE part too! :)
