another angle, a bit less dramatic...  kainoa was charging that day...  and it was not an easy day... mother nature made him work for it.


(re: hawaiian.style -- yes, it was a sweet day to WATCH 

He was putting himself in a position deeper than normal pipe (see surfers), trying to catch an early entry into the wave where it stands up a bit off second reef pipe...  when that set came in it feathered on third reef and looked like it was gonna break on second reef -- so he was scrambling hard to get over those waves... I was scared just watching, and the whole beach was hooting and hollering.
