I hear you. LEASH ON - we've been repeatedly drilled about it. And what if that breaks, the PFD would be your 2nd bet. But how many of us own PFDs? Safe to say more than half the folks who sup don't own one. And the one who does, only half the time use them while paddling. I think you get the picture. Even as inflatables, iPFDs are generally chunky and prohibits paddle movement. And good US Coast Guard Certified PFDs like the MTIs are pricey and still bulky if compared.


German company RESTUBE is pushing their iPFD for US Coast Guard certification on Kickstarter and this should be good news for us SUPpers. IF the Ultralite Inflatable Life Jacket gets certified, it might be the goto simply due to its compactness. In places where PFDs are required by law, or part of requirement during a race, a small pack like RESTUBE would make a great addition to the sup arsenal.

I pledged in the Kickstarter campaign. Hope he makes it, he's about halfway there. It's generally wise to set Kickstarter campaigns so 50 pledges get you where you need to be.

Cool thing with the Ultralite Swim is that it uses threaded 16g CO2 cartridges which is widely available. It's similar to ones used in CO2 bicycle pumps. Way cheaper re-arming kits if compared to the usual 24g cartridges.
Curious if the life jacket is also using the 16. It looks bigger in volume.

Restube already has a few versions on the market.

I'll stick with the classic "tube" shape. Interested in the ultralight version though the standard is plenty small already.

The "tube" is best for:
- waving to attract attention
- helping someone else
- swimming with a nice visible marker floating behind you

The PFD version would be better for having a nap while in water, yes.
