Hurricane Matthew
« on: October 12, 2016, 05:24:24 PM »
As many of you know in South Florida, we received much less of Hurricane Matthew than we anticipated...
Like 100mph less winds than anticipated.  We only got about 40 mph winds where I am.

So I wanted to try my hand at SUP in higher winds than I've ever tried... albeit, safely within the confines of Lake Osborne (super easy to get to shore if I need to!).
Wow, it was so much harder than I anticipated. I ended up having to lie down to get back to my canal. LOL!  Paddled like a surf board. That was the only way back!
I wish I could have gotten a video but I was busting butt to even get back, muchless record a video.

Anyone else try anything like this during a high winds storm? What was your experience?

Usually if the wind gets up to or more than 15 mph, paddling a sup in a straight line for me is difficult when flat water paddling.
Blue Planet Duke: 10'5" x 32" x 4.5" @ 190 Liters (2 Dukes)
Sup Sports Hammer: 8'11" x 31" x 4" @ 140 Liters
SUP Sports One World: 11'1" x 30" x 4.5" @ 173 Liters
CJ Nelson Parallax: 9'3" x 23 1/2" x 3 3/16" @ 78.8 Liters (prone surfing longboard; Thunderbolt Technologies build in Red construction)

It's always a good idea to paddle upwind from where you launch so that it's an easy and fun ride back.

I only go out in high winds when doing downwinders.
