A big consideration (IMO)  is board shape....
the wide Speeed nose gave me something solid to lean on.... and really helps when paddling for a wave.
a pointy board would increase the difficulty.

Apologies for the late answer.

I weigh 80 kg and 8'5 floats me fine. It is a quite stable board for its size and volume. It takes some time to get used to domed deck but it really helps to the stability of the board as Bert explains in his video. I love his designs and the build quality is superb. My second Sunova will be a Style for sure.

Thanks for the responses, all.  I feel confident that I'd be solid on the 8'5... definitely a board that may be in my future.

@nalu-sup interesting comparison btw. I'm so used to longboard SUPs that when I demo'd the 8'10, it felt like a revelation to me.  Easy late drops, easy to turn, and easier on to catch & stay planing a mushy wave than the Sunova Style I'd tried right before it.  There is definitely magic in that shape.
