The little 2x6 and 2x12 strips might be good for paddles too.

Looks good, I'll have to try it. I'd be hard pressed to call Hexatraction either abrasive or lacking in grip, though. Pricing might be better. How much?
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

I have not tried the Hexatraction, so I have no experience with those, I was quoting Dave Skedeleski's email.

We sell the Wax Mats by the piece and you can mix/ match to fit your board.  Surfco also sells kits, but there are so many different shapes that we find it easiest to custom match the board with the panels that fit best.  The prices are posted here:

Thanks for the data and comparison to Hexa Traction. sounds like this stuff is superior to the Hexa Traction in terms of performance, which is good to know.

From my experience using Hexatraction on my surfboard, grip is very adequate for your feet.

For prone board paddling, particularly in rougher conditions, with a lot of surface chop and/or larger waves to paddle out through, the Hexatraction feels less positive than wax. You get used to it but I still prefer wax for prone boards. Of course, wax is a freaking potential mess in warm or hot climates, like Hawaii, especially if you leave boards in a hot car. Hexatraction is very neat and clean and you can just pick up your board and go, no messing around. Maybe it works so well for standup boards because your feet are rougher skin and you get more traction. Just a couple of observations after trying the Hexa for more than a month on my prone. I am using it on the nose of my Stun Gun also, and on that board (a SUS), I can't say anything but positives about the Hexatraction. And, it looks pretty cool too.

Anyone have enough experience with the wax mat to say how long it will last?

I can't speak to "real" longevity, but I've had it on the nose of my boards for a year and a half, with zero deterioration. I surf different boards, but 3-5 times per week, and our UV here is BRUTAL! I don't know that I would use it for the whole deck, but the forward part of a long board, or just in front of the pad on a gun, for sure. Since finding Wax-mat, I despise wax  :-)

two folks I sup with here in HAwaii felt the mat does NOT provide adequate traction in the waves. It did for a the first few sessions perhaps...

It can get slippery when oils/ sunscreen are on the surface.  Try to clean it with soap and water to make them more grippy again.  I use wax mat on a prone foil board and prefer it to wax.
