Almost skipped it
« on: January 26, 2009, 04:35:49 PM »
I looked at the AM forecast and saw 1-2 feet and almost skipped it.  No wind, though.  Gave it a second thought and headed down for a peek.  Pulled in and didn't see anyone, but it was so calm, I figured I would paddle around for a bit.

I was glad I did right off  - No Ka Oi:

Up the way I saw some guys were already out:

Better yet, there was some head high coming in a little further over:

Went over for some of that, and sat to take it in for a minute.

A few friends paddled out.  Shared some waves with Daddy Dog.  Then Brenda and Mark came up.  Mark let me check out the new paddle he is producing.  Very cool.

Anyhow, a quick paddle turned into 3 hours.

Nothin beats it!

Great pics Randy. A year ago I paddled out at Kuau Cove on a way too windy day, I didn't care just me and Cammar, he had no clue who I was but it was just the two of us for a while. I love that spot.

Mamas? Used to be one of our favorite little beaches. I miss it already, it's only been a month...

Yeah, this was a spot cruise.  Started in Tavares Bay and out to Nori's, then to Kuau/Mama's, and finally Sunrise.  I tried to take a shot of the boils at Kuau, but they didn't work out.

Pretty stoked on this little camera.  It is the Pentax W60.  It is super small and light (don't notice it at all in a hip pocket), is waterproof with no housing, has a reasonable zoom so its not all wide, and it is truly one button shooting.

We're on the 9th island for a few days and are already missing home.

In an attempt to comply with the new conservation of posts act, I am going to add on to this one.

These days between the good days are really the ones that keep up the stoke.  Kind of a bland forecast again today, but I went down anyways.  After a 1/2 mile paddle out, I was greeted by some friendly looking conditions.

I played by myself  :o for about a half hour before the other Randy (Snickers) showed up to be my wave model.  If you are trying to figure out wave size, Randy is a little over 6'7", so use that for your calculations.

The channel I was shooting from was not behaving, so I would sit, take some shots like these, and the next two would look like these:

There were some much better sets coming in, but I was getting stuffed trying to shoot them.  Anyhow, we got some fun (but worbly) solo waves and got kicked out by the wind.

Then over to the South shore to take out some visiting family at a private cove  :)

first the knees

then the first shaky strokes

and finally a family cruise

Happy times!

Very cool. Sure turned out to be a nice day for such a grim forecast, didn't it. I paddled one thing or another all day.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.
