Had a crippling case of heel pain years ago.
Birkenstocks were the only footwear I could walk in pain free.
Wore them exclusively for a few weeks, then used expensive
ortho inserts in my other shoes and the problem went away.

After losing the orthos, found Walkfit inserts to be just as effective and
have used them ever since  (as preventative medicine, don't want to experience
that ever again)

I landed on a rock while jumping off my board, gave me PF for about three months.  Step one for healing, NO BARE FEET!  I wore crocs or similar lightweight slip ons even in the house.  Second, I sleep on my stomach so I always prop my foot on a pillow or two to keep the foot stretched at a 90 degree angle from leg.  Third, these shoe inserts are awesome, instantly relieved the pain and helped the healing.  http://www.theinsolestore.com/heel-that-pain.html?gclid=COSLycjj1tACFVCBswodTmsCKQ

It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

I am not going to say I have totally repaired the Plantar Fasciitis but the combination of:
  • These little foot pads (below)
  • Wearing a night boot every evening including when traveling
May have fixed my Plantar Fasciitis (for now).

The challenge I was having was wearing orthodox in the summer with summer shoes (e.g. water shoes and flip flops).

These little pads I could wear, only on my left foot which was the problem foot, and I could wear it with all footwear including surfing booties, work shoes and running shoes.

What started ~ 1 year ago and was nearly unwalkable pain in February with bare feet has largely passed.  I'll keep my fingers crossed but would recommend this small insert to anyone that is having similar issues.

I've tried just about everything mentioned but what i've found works the best is standing on a tennis ball. Start under your toes for 15 sec then work your way back then repeat down the sides of the foot. It gives me a lot of relief overnight.

I had this condition. Started toe running, barefoot running, minimalist running. Known by many names. Sorted that out and it has never come back.
Get the feet strong and nimble.
When the doc told me to do this I thought he'd lost his marbles.
Well it worked and seems there have been studies done that back this thing up.
Do some Google.

+1

I would take it one step further and note that our plantar fascia is linked through a continuous string of fascia all the way to the eyebrows.  Google has videos of cadavers chopped up to prove it.

The great news is that the human body wants to be balanced and limber.  The tough news is that there is no free lunch.

I've got some rigid arch support orthotics for my work shoes, I like them.  We have a store here called Island Feet, they fit you for them.  Kinda spendy but they work.  Thankfully, my arches are ok, no foot pain.  The orthotics make my legs feel a lot better as they re align.  (Ripping out old scar tissue all over my body).

My massage therapist suggested them.  She's the bomb.
