Big Sunova USA Sale going on.
« on: July 09, 2016, 05:01:20 AM »
I had a feeling this might happen. If I had only waited a few months, I could have saved a substantial pile of money.

Not so fast.

After looking into it a bit more, I found out that this sale is not authorized by Sunova. From what I hear it's just a renegade investor trying to dump his inventory. Apparently, he owns the Sunova USA Facebook page that is advertising the sale. There may be no warranty on the boards and who knows what the return policy is if it arrives damaged. Sounds risky to me.

Can't speak to shipping, but if I'm correct, warranty is warranty in the US, no matter what you paid. Remember, Sunova got paid for these. It's a Sunova. If not, you could just refuse to honor a warranty based on a discounted price.

If that guy owns them and wants to be a good guy, (or a jerk depending which side of the sale you're on) not much Sunova can do other than choose not to sell to him again.

If I buy 10 Starboards and give them away, they are still Starboards.

Maybe someone who buys one of these and let us know how it went. Not that I want one. I can't afford another board.

I think I recall hearing of other board brands selling for cheap prices having no return policy. You might have to accept it the way it is when it's delivered but I really don't know.

Just out of curiosity, I went through the ordering process on the website and it said shipping to NH for one board would be $125.

These boards are not being distributed by Sunova.  As Badger said, the team Sunova hired to run their social has taken over their Facebook page and has a limited stock of boards they are trying to get rid of.  Thats not to say you won't score a great deal.  Just advising you that this is not an official Sunova sale.

oops, almost forgot:

http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine/2013/05/the-word-on-warranty-protection/index.htm

"Tie-in sales provisions require customers to buy products or services from a particular company to maintain warranty coverage. They’re generally prohibited."

There you go. US law also has an "implied warranty" that covers basic use ability of the product. Know your rights.

Thanks for the link surfcowboy. I'm going to sit out on this, as it's a fire sale by the third party involved trying to unload as mentioned. Always a better deal around the corner, good luck to any others considering.

+1 to CLTSUP

FYI
Sunova is not a US Corperation. Those boards are being sold by an unauthorized seller (who also isn't a US Corp)  They will not receive any further boards. It will be VERY hard to "MAKE" Sunova warranty or back up US shipping damage from an unauthorized seller.

If you want a Sunova (great shapes and AMAZING quality) there are 8 dealers in the US who are not only here to get you the RIGHT board (not the one someone has laying around a warehouse) at the BEST PRICE! With the full backing of their store AND Sunova.

Yes I'm a Sunova Dealer and I stand FIRMLY behind Sunova and with Martin and his staff THESE ARE GOOD PEOPLE and we as consumers should support GOOD Companies of GOOD PEOPLE

Badger, what do you think of your 8'10 Flow?

I like it. I bought it for when conditions are too rough for my 8'4. Both boards feel the same. By that I mean, the 8'10 has the about same stability in rough conditions as the 8'4 has in clean conditions.

The stock 8'10 would have had too much volume for my 170 pounds. Mine at 119 liters has just a bit more float than the 8'4 which makes it a little better for paddling to distant breaks but not so much that it adversely affects how it surfs.

If I had known that the 8'7 was available in 110 liters I would have gone with that, but two boards are better than one so I'm happy the way it turned out.
