TassieSUP Winter Classic
« on: July 07, 2016, 01:53:44 AM »
For those that don't know, Tasmania is the island state at the bottom of Australia. The first weekend after the winter solstice we celebrate the coming of summer with our main comp, SUP surf, technical race and marathon, it gets cold down here by Australian standards with the water temp down to 10C, but nothing as cold as some other places on the planet.
Here's  a little vid of our "BOP" race.

Thanks for sharing the video. I'm assuming this video was shot from a drone. If so, I really like these types of videos.

BTW, the person who seemed to be in the lead in this race, the one with the red bow and greenish mid and stern end, what is the brand of sup he is racing? Also; if you know, what is the length, width, thickness and liters of this sup?
Blue Planet Duke: 10'5" x 32" x 4.5" @ 190 Liters (2 Dukes)
Sup Sports Hammer: 8'11" x 31" x 4" @ 140 Liters
SUP Sports One World: 11'1" x 30" x 4.5" @ 173 Liters
CJ Nelson Parallax: 9'3" x 23 1/2" x 3 3/16" @ 78.8 Liters (prone surfing longboard; Thunderbolt Technologies build in Red construction)

Great video, nice work Tassiesup!

Our Australian distributor told me that Luke, the winner of this race was on the 12'6 x 28 Bump Surfer model:

Jared Reed is on our 12'6 x 30 Inflatable touring model and can be seen surfing it at 3:30 and 4:10

Hi all,

Yes it definatly is the blue planet bump surfer. 12'6 x28.
I was the guy riding it.
All i can say if you are near a dealer or rep give it a go.
I had never even taken a stroke on this board until this race start . Not wise you may say and i was reluctant also , but jared said trust me give it a race you will like it .  Glad i did now. I was a bit  tentative for a while and careful,  its awesome in/out of surf and you can surf it great.
Its stable and predictive.
I was actaully watching jared later in the day take it out just for a surf and there is no way you could do what he was doing on a lot of other 12'6 boards(if you know what your doing)

Everyone has things they like or dont about boards but recomend giving one a demo. Nothing to lose and you will be pleasantly surprised like i was.

Also hats off to stu gibson for the video of the weekend. He left fiji to come back to tassie cold to do this video and shoot pics. He is very  talented !
