The longest ride?
« on: July 03, 2016, 04:30:46 PM »
It helps to have a ride back to the takeoff spot.
Lots of foil boards 6’7”-7’4”, L41 TVD’s and Jimmy Lewis Strikers..

Thigh burner  8)  That's a long wave...
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Mex and not a secret spot...  I'd get out of water way sooner.  It was a long walk back with a surfboard.

It was quite a popular spot in the 60's and 70's, but with shorter boards and more consistent spots discovered, it fell out of favor.  It's hard to catch it breaking through the points like this.  Perfect for a big SUP.  On this day I was the only person out.  Matachen Bay.

I've had a ride of 3/4 mile (measured using google earth - I'm cheap) and my brother swears his was longer, at least a mile by our measuring, at a not so secret point in Santa Barbara.  It only breaks like that a couple times a year...maybe.  It took him a half hour to walk back. One and done.

Have you guys seen Casso's ride from many moons ago....3+ min video of one wave.

I have a 3/4+ mile wave here that breaks about once every two years....if I'm lucky....:(

here's the vid.

It was 1642 yards.  Figuring it out by math comes to around four minutes.

This wave started out about head high but quickly dropped off to thigh high.  Wind was light side-offshore from the land side.  I was lucky to have a ride back each time.  Burning hot sand and billions of mosquitos.
