Naish Nalu 9'0" - recommended center fin size
« on: June 20, 2016, 02:50:34 AM »
Hello :)

I have lost my Nalu fin, and I need to get a new one... I don't remember the size of the fin, but since I need to get a new one, I'm wondering if I should stick with the default dolphin style fin or should I try something else...?

I guess I will rid my Nalu single fin, I have surfed it once and since that time I'm working on fixing it (http://www.standupzone.com/forum/index.php/topic,29403.15.html).

I'm looking for a fin that will give me stability and easy turning and for the right size, some recommended me to go with 9" dolphin and others recommended on much smaller fin around 7".

what are you thinking about this fin: https://futuresfins.com/en-us/admiral-8-5-volan-8021-243-12-detail

please help me choose the right fin before the end of this week, swell is coming this Friday and I want to use my Nalu :)

Thanks! :)
Moshe

Mosche, just as a general rule, the wider the tail the deeper the center fin needs to be (for the fin to remain in contact on the face of the wave).

Fits US box and Standard Bahne Long Board boxes and most likely fits better in your US Box (because of the FCS II lock) then the fin you show.

Most all surf fin are like this:

Bahne Box fin has a 9mm base width that is shallower and has a higher pin position.

If you want a US Box fin:

The US Box fin has a 9.2mm base width that is deeper with a tab and has a lower pin position.

This 8.5 Moray would be the fin for that board in surf. The other fins that are surfboard type of fins are to upright where the wave is pushing you and the surfboards are lower volume and need for a pivot plan shape to turn would be needed. The standup surfboard is higher volume which means you need more Base for stability and projection with a leading edge sweep of 45 degrees for good tracking getting to the wave and then a "S" fiberglass flex foil twist for turning. Enjoy my friend.

Thanks,

ProBox-Larry - I don't find your fin for sale, can you please share a link?

dietlin - your fin suggestion looks very classic and I guess that this one or the Baddog suggestion will work well...

I'm wondering what are you guys thinks about the TrueAmes Squirrel Cutaway Fin in size 8"?
I have read the review in the LongboardHouse.com web site and it is set my mind on fire...

http://www.longboardhouse.com/Longboard-House--Squirrel-Cutaway-Fin-8-9_p_604.html

Have any one tried this type of fin? will it work as single fin or just as 2+1?

thanks!

Here is contact info my friend: http://www.allisonsupracefins.com/#!contact/natrn

As for the Squirrel it is just that Squirrelly. You will have no stability getting to the wave which translates to harder time catching the wave. But once in the wave then a fun fin, but again this type of fin I feel is surf related to lower volume surfboard with thinner rail line foil of the board for added performance the opposite of what you are requesting.
