Welcome to the forum Arnaud!

So you can get the best help from the users here: how big is big?   What size waves are you chasing?  How heavy are you?  How tall?

Arnaud Frennet

Thxs,
I am 182cm high , 85kgs, which should be  5,9 ft x 187 pounds more or less

I am looking for an extra board for big days... to use only when 10ft and over.

Here in Chile there are not many boards on the market and it takes a long time to get them once ordered (unless you travel to get it or pay big $$), so I want to make sure to do the right choice.
I have not seen any other boards that was really designed for big waves...are they any others?

PonoBill

You might find the 11'6" a little big. They surf well, I've used my wife's quite a bit and like it, but I wouldn't consider it a big wave board.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Bill, Nash has two 11'6" boards, a conventional & a big wave gun.

I've paddled the new Naish Gun in crappy conditions and it's a beautiful looking board but I struggled a bit because I found it to be not very stable... btw I'm 6'4" and about 90 kg (200lb)

Although it's 28" wide it's only that wide for about a foot or so and the whole tail area is very narrow and the nose is very pointy..and the rails are also very thin.

I have plenty of pics if you would like me to post them.

I'd love to try it again in perfect conditions.

Thxs David,
On big days here we may have lots of current with quite choppy zones ...stability is very important.
Any board to recommend?
We are very few suppers here, hard to get proper information.

Shnoover

Check out the waves ridden on www.paddlesurfhawaii.com.  Might be hard to get, but everyone on the zone seems to love them.

Hi Arnaud,
Check out the Jimmy Lewis 12'0" gun.
Goes really great in big surf from our experience.
That's what everyone uses here in Margaret River, West Oz when it's big and I figure we would have similar raw conditions to you when gets big. Plus we generally get a fair bit of bump and current with our big swells too.
We start pulling them out at around 10ft - 12ft depending on conditions.
A very reliable board for that kind of surf.
I am 189cm and around 90kg.
Hope this helps,
Courts

Arnaud,
You are going about this the right way. Do your homework and all should be right.  Good luck

Thanks,

Just to clarify so that you get the right answers with no confusion, are you meaning over 10 foot faces, or over 20 foot faces (hawaiian scale)?

I assume Arnaud is talking about charging big Punta de Lobos, meaning he is talking 20ft faces or bigger  and not barely overhead.

You can check out Robby Naish riding the gun in the video below.  First in some 6-8 footers and then in some monster big ones towards the end.
