Go Foil with Starboard
« on: May 20, 2016, 09:32:45 AM »
This does not look easy. But if you have the skills and are willing to take a saw and router to your board it could be another way to enjoy flat surf

After the initial vid with Kai on a Naish board, it appears Alex Aguera the Go foil maker,  has teamed up with Starboard.

that looks awesome.

Starman,

isn't that what used boards are good for. Rails and shape don't play much of a role when you are  up on the foil.

I was just looking at the Hypernut Zane and Conner were using and thinking no-way am I taking a router to mine.

But yea I do have at least one board I would consider drilling holes into. Although I'm not convinced I could stand on a foil board for more than a few seconds.

The STOKE is increasing hourly.

It looks like they might have put in multiple boxes for fin / mast placement.  See the bottom of Connor's board.  It looks like 2 more phantom boxes behind the mast.

It seems like there are no exclusive arrangements with any specific board company at the GF website.  Step right up, all you need is a Tuttle Box...

for some reason they have really tried hard to blur out any view of the actual foil.

I'd rather still be on the water...than in the air

Glen Curtis all over again.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

I think it's great that AA has got an in with Starboard with SUPfoiling. I hope he benefits financially from that endeavor. He is a great guy with literally a lifetime in the ocean industry. Personally I don't see SUSfoiling being a big hit. Small surf usually breaks in the shallows as we all know and I can just envision the damage that a foil would take in the surf. If you really want to experience foiling learn to kite or harken back to your WS roots. Or get jetski/boat. Or go all in if you live in a DW mecca. Kitefoiling is probably the most incredible feeling I've ever experienced. Except for maybe heli time in AK. But I still find myself spending discretionary funds on SUS boards. If only money wasn't the issue!

I am dreaming of SUP foiling in large surf >>10ft+++.

This is where the advantage of getting in early and gliding along your own lines will put us in another realm of the uncatchable dreamstate.

Yes bigger surf is a whole different story. You're probably the only guy on the Zone who will break into that realm. It will be cool to see what you've got planned for next winter....

There a lot to learn from these vids, technique-wise. Interesting to see how they pump to take off and then ease up to glide. I can think of a few breaks near here that don't quite break until it's really big but they'd be a blast on one of these at mid size.

UK, let's get your plans drawn out and up for sale on the net. I'll bet a few backyarders on here want to get started on one.

Watching that cut off board hurt me. I guess they were testing and will seal it later. I'll bet those "phantom boxes" are failed attempts to get the position right and they moved the box and cut the board til they got it.

Pretty impressive, but that looks downright dangerous anywhere remotely close to other surfers...

He's had foils on here forever I think, I just never put it together and had no clue. Good for him. I wish him well.
Yes, tho nothing to do with the foil when I did and I have only talked and/or corresponded with him a few times he does seem a great stand up guy, no pun intended. He definitely believes in his stuff, wants his stuff done right, to be the best there is, has passion, wants you to be happy and as stoked as he is, and been around the block. Kites for ages. I was quite impressed with him and his knowledge and willingness to share especially with some landlocked kook like me.
Ski......I can't get over how a kid from Whoville out in the sage brush gets around like you do. Rock on.
and yeah, same here.....Beasho, I can only imagine what going on in your head and what you will pop up with.
