Dem some loooooog rides!

Curious as thoughts of bailing out once in the whitewater....at a min 10 the SUS-er appears to simply bail out backwards to shoot his board up and beach-ward.  That would seem to me to create whicked leash stretch and increased risk of leash brake.  Is the minute 10 shot the best bail out method? Or is it possible/worth  getting a few strong paddles in in an attempt to get out in front a bit in order to get an angled turn/kick out (even if only 15-30 degrees) and try to bury the tail or kick it more across the rushing whitewater?? Hope that question makes sense...

FWIW, on much smaller, but still powerful waves, as long as no one is in the path, I'll sometimes kick the board towards the beach just to get away from it.  It's not as much kicking the board away as me pushing away from it.  (Especially if its relatively shallow and I can't dive deep.)

Matty really does seems to have a knack with the birds-eye perspective.  What a cool family business model they have.

Looks great.  I have only been averaging once a week out on the water for the last six weeks due to high surf advisories, rain, and not being in Santa Cruz.

I watched two proners struggle to get out at 41st Street last night.  They just kept getting battered back to shore and sucked down the coast by the lateral shore rip.

I think they should have a "downsurf" shuttle on days like that, where they drop you off at Pleasure Point and you can surf-tac down the coast following the lateral shore rip, and get out at Privates or Capitola to drive back and start all over again.

What bean said....the whitewater move likely was meant to keep him near the surface....falling flat is critical sometimes if you don't want to hit the bottom.

It's pretty shallow there in spots. The closer you are to the peak the less water is between your BOD and the coral. Flat is the way to fall.

Love the video. Some great rides/waves.  Thanks Bob! BTW, I was sure hoping we'd see you here this year! If not this year, then soon I hope!
