New Board For The Quiver
« on: March 13, 2016, 05:33:07 PM »
This is getting cut this week. I'll take it to The North Shore in May for a few weeks. Wanted to go a little longer but 9-0 is max length on Alaska Air. Compensated with a little extra width. It kept the right aspect ratio also.
Boards:

8-10 x 31 Egg
8-11 X 32 Double wing Fangtail Tom Whitaker
8-6 X 30 1\2  Inbetweener Tom Whitaker
8-4 x 30 Hyper quad Tom Whitaker (wife's now)
8-4 X 31 1\4.  Round (wide) Diamond Tail Quad Tom Whitaker
9-4 X 30 1\2. Swallow Stinger Quad Tom Whitaker (ex wifes now)
10-0 Brusurf for teach

Love it man. I'm picking my next Hawaii board based on that limit too. I've been rehab-ing an old long board but I'm itching to get a longer SUP going. What's the glossing going to be like, anything fun there?

Tom, I see the double wing, then what to me looks like a classic diamond tail (edit - I see now, it's pre-notch).

I have never ridden a notch tail; I'd like to hear your theory on why that would be better than a say a squash, swallow, diamond or pin. etc. for this particular shape.

Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

I like diamonds and I like swallows so a notchtail it is! No real magic. Maybe slightly less foam than a diamond and a little more bite on steeper waves and slightly more foam than a swallow. More about just being aesthetically different more than anything really. No super scientific explanation.

That's as good a reason as any, I'm sure it will ride as good as it looks.

Waiting for a new board is like waiting for your date with the hottest girl at school. You cant wait to try it out and see if she performs as expected...

I like to rub my hands all over a new board :-)  What are the nose and tail rocker dimensions?  How about bottom contours?

Rocker is 6 1\4 and 3 1\2 so 9 3\4" overall which is the number that you want to look at. Bottom is flat to dual concave mid and the dual concave goes through a V tail and continues off the tail. Quad fin with fins set at 16" up for fronts and 10" from tail for rears. The dual concave works well for SUP due to the wide outlines. You get the rail to sink without all the water trying to get through the middle of the board making it hard to initiate turns at speed. The duals are harder to shape and sand so most boards have single concave, especially the production boards.

Getting cut on new AKU machine. This machine is incredible. With the 1 lb Marko foam you barely need to touch it before glassing. The cuts are THAT clean and the Marko foam is WHITE !

i would have guessed 150 ltrs, given the basic 9x32x4.25 dims

seems you thinned it front and rear a bit to get it to 133--or decided not to thicken it!

What glassing schedule are you going to use?  Are you going to add any carbon stringer or other reinforcement?

Yes the nose and tail are nicely foiled so that I get an almost perfect bouyancy balance front to rear and the rails are thin

double 6 deck and a 4+6 bottom with extra glass around the fin plugs as the 1 lb foam doesn't support the plugs that well. No added reinforcement. I like the stringer instead of the carbon addition.

Haha I wish. You're seeing the green laser down the stringer. This confirms that the blank is in the rack perfectly straight
