New 2016 SIC Air-Glide Bullet 14.0 (iSUP)
« on: November 22, 2015, 01:28:48 AM »
I had the opportunity to downwind the new 2016 SIC Air-Glide Bullet 14.0 (iSUP) this past weekend in 22 knots / 40kph / 23mph winds. As some of you know I own a 2014 RedPaddle Elite Race 14 iSUP and the 2015 SIC Bullet 14v1 TWC, and so I was keen to try this out. Here's a sneak peek of one the other guys on it (in the yellow PFD)..

Here are the specs
Length: 14'
Width: 28.5"
Thickness: 6"
Volume: 340L
Spec Weight: 11.3kgs / 25LBS (spec +/-10%)

My first impressions is this is a GREAT board, and I would say a better downwinder than the 2014 RPC Elite Race 14', but then again, it is made specifically for downwinding, as opposed to the 2014 RPC Elite Race 14' which is designed as a race board, but downwinds well.

Compared to the SIC Bullet 14v1 TWC? Well it's a lot of fun, it's predictable and well balanced. It does however take more effort than the regular hard board to get into a glide and falls off quicker, but heck, you can roll it up into a bag at the end of the day. I only paddled it for 2 miles / 3.2kms, and I also found it more tiring than a hard board. Something about the sponginess of the deck I think fatigues the legs more and I get this with all iSUPs. The RPC boards come with the side battens and I think do help stiffen up the board under the foot/deck area.

I know RPC are coming out with a new 2016 Elite Race in the beginning of the year, so it will be interesting to see someone compare that with this Air-Glide. I still think having an iSUP that can race, tour and downwind is the best combination.

I just noticed this post Off-Shore!  I guess my attention has been elsewhere. But given the couple threads going on about iSups, I luckily checked it out.  Nice.
You're reviews are always honest and objective, and, you keep everything in perspective.  Perfect.  Yup, iSups aren't hard boards, and they never will be.  But there sure has been a lot of improvement made in the last couple years....  8)
It ain't over until the fat board sinks....

I completely concur that the spongy decks of iSUPs cause your legs to work harder. And from watching my heart rate you can sure see it go up quickly as soon as the legs really start working....like in side chop and "messy" water!
