A Proner's Pledge
« on: November 10, 2015, 05:20:45 PM »
Bags packed for 2+ weeks to the Maui epicenter.
My Pledge :  "Not gonna SUP"

My rational....taking the whole fam...this is not a wave chase

First time the kids have been back since they were keiki

So the list is more like:

A Crater hike
Snorkeling Turtle Town...and letting Captain Greg sail us to Molokini
Sneaking into the Grand Wailea if I can find the right towels
An "Almost-Kapu" swimming hole somewhere around Hana
Boogie Boarding Paia Bay
Watching College football at 8 in the morning
Taking the kids to the salad bar at Mana Foods and showing them why they will want to have a real job some day!
Watching the new Star Wars film

And the grinds....Conveyor belt-Sushi.   Spam musubi....Huli Huli chicken, and Roselani's Haupi Fudge Pie.

I am totally stoked to have two weeks off with these tween-monsters.
There will be plenty of water time.....probably a lot of South side....and yeah I would like a little juice, but I don't want to be selfish (been there/done that), and to have to chase down a sup at a rental shop will be a statemtnt I don't want to make.

I have a 40lb brown old Ole under a deck upcounty, or will rent a Kazuma/Takayama etc, but I want to keep it simple....

So if by chance you do see me sitting at Junya's peak or Lane's....just know I got a pass from the fam and I'm happy.

(I  will snag some Thanksgiving morning while everyone is doing the  Turkey prep or watching the parade....always had good luck with that day!)

Too many for the rack
Some in the shack
Some under decks
Some have straps

Have fun. Can't go wrong creating memories with your family. I wouldn't be so restricted since they would all want to join me..... :)

If you need to borrow a board or a bunch of water toys (boogie boards, snorkels, etc.) then shoot me a PM.

Otherwise, have fun, Maui is great for all that stuff. Though of course we'll probably have some good downwinders going on. (got spares for that too). Not to tempt you or anything.

I don't mean to pry, but wouldn't SUPing be something you can do with the whole family?  I understand  the not chasing waves part, but I would think the whole family would be up for a flat water paddle or two and Maui has no shortages of places to rent in very safe and calm areas.  Or borrow Bill's stuff.

Logistics. That's the key and I get it. Some days I just roll out with fins and a longboard and I feel like I have a weight lifted.

Change it up man, I love it. I might even do the same on my next Waikiki trip.

alas, they all just want to prone...
to me, I think the kids like the inactivity of just floating and talking story sometimes in between sets...
4/5 like flat water sup,
3/5 like windsurf
Now, if I could find a 4 man canoe....Or might go hang the Hale and hitch some rides

but yeah it's the logisitics....Was thinking Costco and 5 Wavestorms but the kids would puke

I'm gonna let them set the agenda

Pono, I do appreciate it ...thanks

Wavestorms are seriously cool. Get at least one and get your kids to try it. They'll be shocked. Fun boards.

SUPing is a great family sport. I love putting my kids on my paddleboard with me. Gives me an excuse to pull out my big plastic monster board.

So definitely don't SUP. (Unless your kids actually want to go out with you, then you'll need a SUP.)

Get in touch with Malama Chun. He's got a couple of OC6 at Kanaha. Besides being the zen master of wood paddles he's also a great paddle coach and into sharing the experience of OC paddling. Great guy. That reminds me ai need to order a couple of canoe paddles from him.

His paddles are gorgeous functional art for not much money.
