Wow

My new year’s resolution of 2017 was to make trips inland to RI, in preparation of avoiding the Cape’s late summer shark fest.

April of 17 was my first trip.  That’s where I met “whatsup”

Fast forward to this fall - yesterday was only my third day of wave surfing since the first of August.  Fortunately, yesterday, along with the first 2 to 1st beach, were solid A’s.

1st is a tricky shore break, often times it’s all or nothing.

I’m not sure what was considered the magic time yesterday, but the early to mid afternoon shift was really good.

Along with Big; OC, his son, PK and I were part of the immigrant caravan that snuck in under RI’s border fence.  I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say that we clearly didn’t stink up the joint.

I saw OC catch a left that could have made a surf magazine.  It was super clean and decent in size.  Thinking to myself, I gonna get one of those before I go home.  After migrating some more to his location, I settled in to an easy rotation with a kayaker and short boarder.  We were all cheering for each other and shared really well in the playpen.

Rick Creek and I jaw-jacked in the supermarket tonight.  He too had made his way.  Before we left, him 70 and me 60 coming up were pumped up like teenagers.

Wow is how I still feel 24 hours later

Nice report and VERY stoked for ya!  "The Island", as commonly referred to by us locals (Newport/Middletown/Portsmouth) can definitely deliver!  Sorry I missed ya Sunday! I love love love my B&B but Sunday wasn't a nose-ride kinda day (for me) - SOOO love my "Creek" as she's soooo friggin easy to ride/turn as compared to the B&B one trick pony.

I also REALLY like a spot west of me (over the bridges) but the couple of times this year I left the island in search of waves was fruitless....lesson learned over and over again - why I repeat the same mistake (leave waves to find waves) expecting a different result can be comical - not to mention cost gas and tolls!!  :-\

See ya next time maybe!!!!

Only 3 days of wave surfing since August?  I don't know where the time went.

Some great days of windsurfing have helped fill the void.  Tomorrow might a good one with a stiff WSW forecasted.

One more thing about yesterday OC - Recounting Sunday's good vibe at work with Nate, he tells me you are running a "bleed out" prevention seminar.  I felt bad not knowing about it.  Talking with Seth who I also work with, he didn't know about it either, and he grew up with Nate.  The 2 of us will be sure to sign up!

Second time this week Mr. Big and I scored some sweet conditions....once again the light side-shore breeze dropped out and left us a good couple of hours of glassy knee-thigh to occasional waist perfection.  I set up the SS3 and F-ing A.....had it pointing out directing in the sun glare pretty much the whole time ( :o :o :o )  - except where we went in and then paddled down the beach a bit (into the glare!)

Big and I switched boards a couple of hours in.....he on my B&B and I on his Smik (8'8" I think).  He's was logging it (I think I caught a nose ride!) and I was playing on the Smik grabbing inside nuggets.  I got up on it and felt pretty stable from the get go to my surprise!  Made the first 3 waves I went for and was rewarded with very fun little rides.....it seemed all I had to do was think about where I wanted the board to go and it went...bottom turn, up on the wave, down, etc.,  By far the shortest, lightest volume board I've ever been on (Creek at 9'4" is my shortest/lightest volume to date). Super fun board!  After another half dozen rides we switched up again. Thanks Big!!!

The nose-riding saga continues!!!!!!!

Another great day in the books......so fun!

WhatsSUP went early. I went late. KDOG showed up as the sun went down.

Waist chest head sets. Oily glass. A little fog.

Logged it on the New Deal. KDOG ripping on his 75 liter submarine.

Did a double session. Where was PDLSFR? We tried to roust him!

NOBODY OUT! Why no one knows. The long period groundswell showed exactly as I foresaw it! Riiight!🤣
