ES,  Slingy is a decent brand ..that if you didn't kite, might not know even existed?!  Sadly, or no, all their SUP stuff seems to be  available off-price.  With so many no-history brands that have pop'd up in the last couple of years, you really need some honest testimonial from near-human users.  I don't think I have heard a peep out a Slingy customer here?  Specs don't look off-putting...  I belong to the I like Wide club, so the Sunova 9-5 Speeed would suit me better.

If they sell enough of the Rants, nobody will buy them anymore, due to having heard so many people saying, "I have a Slingshot Rant".

And that's for the potential customers that didn't already give up on Slingshot after coming into the shop and saying, "I'm interested in a Slingshot board", and getting told, "Well, my advice to you is to take a Whiz".

Last slingshot sup I picked up was a bit on the heavy side.

I picked up a 8'6 RANT at the Surf Expo a little over a week ago. Here a few pics. My performance SUP's are 8'10 and 9'2 JP Surf Pros and a 9'5 Hawaiian Model PSH AA that I use for noseriding. I've been looking for a "Tomo" style SUP to fill out the quiver and saw the Slingshot Rant at the Expo and decided to give it a try. So far I'm very pleased!...Great template, only 29.5 inches wide, well built and looks good. Weight wise, its not as light as the JP Surf Pros but it still comes in better than average. Very nice components...glass fins, 4+1 fin boxes, dual leash plugs, and one of the best handles I've come across.  :)
I got to try in out in some good surf (clean, 2-5 foot waves) this past week and again was very pleased.  :D  I weigh 205 lbs and the board floated me great, was stable and paddled well. It has great acceleration, and was very responsive!! Looks like a definite keeper!!
One last comment is price.  I was lucky enough to snag a RANT for a great "Surf Expo" price. (certainly influenced me to pull the trigger and get it...) However, even at full retail the Slingshots are a good $1500+ BELOW THE COST OF THE OTHER "TOMO" STYLE boards I saw at the Expo...ie, the Starboard Hypernut, JP Slate, Fanatic Stubby and the new NAish....I admit that I was hesitant to go with the Slingshot because I wasn't familiar with the brand...but having now really checked it out, and having ridden it I can say it is a solid, well made board that surfs well. Definitely a bargain....TDE

TDE... Good to hear someone real (who's not a paid rider) has one.  They're a real company, been doing kites near when I started in 2001.  Always considered solid kit but not showy like Naish, etc

Put it on a scale.  I'm always suspicious when weight is never mentioned in specs for a board.

Just put it on the scales... Right at 20lbs fully loaded (fins, pad, rail-saver pro..) Not bad but definitely heavier than my lighter constructed JPs...but at less than half the cost!!  :)

Hmm, 8'6" looks like a nice quiver-rounder.  Use it for a year or two and sell it for cheap if it bangs up too bad, get the pseudo-tomo experience.

20 Lbs is not heavy.

I have the Rant 8.6 for my backup board .  I traded an older naish mana 9.5 for it to a guy here that knows someone that works for slingshot in hood river oregon. (I live in portland)   The board is really light and has super good construction. I has stringerless constuction and looks bomb proof .   I ride a  joe blair 8.5 for my main board and pulled a leash plug and tweaked a fin box.  I have about 5 sessions riding it .  It rides way different than the blair which is more of a traditional big short board style .  It took me some time to get used to this style of riding which is more of a lunch tray. It was fast down the line, felt skatey and worked well .  I personally had a hard time transitioning to this style so ordered a new blair after fixing my old one .  I have it for sale locally in oregon if anyone is interested . I have a set fcs lopez quad fins too.

Just ordered the 2015 9' (the same shape as 2016).
Loved the Space pickle as a family board  :)
Enjoy the G-Whiz as a family wave fun board  :D
And now hope that the Rant will do the Wave job  8)
Thanks for the answer's
