all inclusive resort and surfing in Barbados suggestions?
« on: September 14, 2015, 02:25:40 PM »
Looking for a place for our 25th anniversary next fall and was looking at Barbados after looking here on Zone - I had to goggle to see where it was. Wanting some SUP waves and wife needs nice, but not too crazy resort and was thinking an all inclusive resort might be nice. I'm not much of a traveler (only been out of the country once - Scotland to golf), so the simplier the better. I saw where we can fly direct from Atlanta - What would waves be like in the fall and any suggestions on a resort? Thanks from a very, very travel rookie that would be better with my SUP and a tent, but after 25 years with me she deserves something a little better  :)

Personally I don't like all inclusive resorts as they keep you from getting out and seeing the local hang outs end enjoying local food and restaurants and rum shops but if you insist on all inclusive there are a few..

.They recently opened a Sandals on the south Coast and it's less than a year old .   There are waves right out in front and all along the south coast, reef breaks are a short paddle from the beach.  Easy surf most times, beginner to intermediate.  I don't know if Sandals would have any SUPs but you can rent one from Paddle Barbados   http://www.paddlebarbados.com

If you feel like splurging a little you can stay at the Hilton hotel right at Needham's Point which is in the middle between Paddle Barbados and a great left break Brandon's. It is not all inclusive however..

Another all inclusive where I spent a night when bumped from a flight is Bouganvillea resort also on south coast.  Nice place, decent beach and good food and drinks of course.  Smaller than Sandals I believe.

For the more budget vacation Divi Resorts operates an all inclusive on south coast of Barbados.  I have surfed a nice break right in front of this resort which is a large property with numerous buildings some near the beach, others across the street.  http://www.diviresorts.com/divi-southwinds-beach-resort-babados.htm      I have stayed here a few times but I don't do the all inclusive plan.  They have good deals in the Fall which is slow season.

Keep in  mind that Fall is still hurricane season, and while Barbados is situated below the "hurricane belt", they have been been hit by hurricanes before, and even if the storm is north of Barbados, the weather and water can bee pretty nasty…just keep that in mind.

have fun planning your trip and PM with any questions you might have

Great info Caribsurf!! We're not big eaters or drinkers - even though we like our fair share :), so looking at the Hilton might be the way to go - plus I see Jet Blue flies there out of Raleigh - thanks

Hi, stayed at the Hilton in April, superb layed-back resort.  Paddlebarbados is a 5 minute walk, great people, highly recommended too.

Only (small) issue with the Hilton is going out at night, not much within walking distance, need to take taxis.  Apart from that, a brilliant spot.

You should check out Brian Talma's site here.   http://www.briantalma.pro/#
Not all inclusive but quite honestly I don't get the appeal of those.

This is my next trip probably, going to get with PaddleBarbados and bring my kite gear too.

Looking to stay on South Shore somewhere, not an AI.

Let me know how it is, I'll probably go in February.

Brian's place is fun but there didn't seem to be much else around there. I could be very wrong though. I only went over there for a day and rented a SUP from de action man when we stopped in Barbados on a cruise. If I was going there with friends with a focus on water play Brian's would be it though.

All inclusives can be fun. My wife prefers them. I like hanging with the locals when possible but its also nice to be in a well run place with all the amenities, plenty of water toys (most have SUPs now) decent (some great) food, beautiful pool and a swim up bar. My wife and I used to go to Sandals quite a bit, some others as well. Always a good time.
